They were both world champs at 130, when Loma started calling him out. Champions are expected to do something besides hold their belts hostage, and unification bouts are the clearest way to find out who's the best in a division. If you feel like you're too young and inexperienced to unify, then you might as well drop your belt. In Tank's case, he lost it on the scales against Fonseca.

I don't even think Loma will still be fighting in 5 years; 36 is old for a boxer and ancient for a lightweight. It wouldn't mean much for Tank to beat a faded Loma, especially if he ducked him in his prime.

Because it seems like people only want to criticize PBC for this. Which is what pisses off some of the posters here.
Can’t think of a scenario where’d I advocate for the best not fighting the best. Seeing top talent fight each other is really the only reason I watch the sport.

Even if he loses to Loma doesn't make him less of a fighter. Like you said...he dared to be great and that admirable.
Running Ducking and crying about to soon like these Davis fans sound like a bunch of puzzies.
Lopez just beat commey for the ibf belt.

Thats what i was saying. He just won his Belt also. That was his first shot a world title. So for the first time of being a real world champ hes gonna go big or go broke.

Davis is also now a world LW title holder. Why not fight the winner of Loma Lopz next?

In a perfect world, we’d see all these guys willing to face each other. The reality is, some have more to lose than others and a loss can seriously put a damper on someone’s marketability/earnings. Can’t hate on guys for choosing less risk especially if it can be also be lucrative, but I’m not interested in watching whatever bs fights their promoters force on us while while they piss their talent away. Just imagine any other sport where the goal wasn’t to be the best and you had a bunch of different guys/teams all running around claiming to be the best while avoiding each other.

Rigo and Tank were at the same weightclass in chose not to fight Loma, not his fault if they agree after the moved up

As has already been said, if you don’t want to fight the best don’t fight for belts and work your way up slowly. No one has any problem in fighters progressing through the ranks in there own time.
