Just checked out ESPN’s updated rankings. After the Gamboa fight, Dan Rafael now considers Tank Davis the fifth best at 135. He states his criteria thusly: “As a general rule, the rankings are based on what a fighter has accomplished in the weight division in which he is ranked, although his overall body of work is not entirely ignored.”
So nearly going the distance with the shell of an old, one-legged fighter is an “accomplishment in the weight division”? Lol
The list goes like this:
1. Lomachenko
2. Lopez
3. Pedraza
4. Campbell
5. Davis
6. Haney
7. Commey
8. Fortuna
9. Barthelemy
10. Selby
After watching Davis-Gamboa, I’m not at all sure Tank beats some of the guys ranked beneath him. Debuting him at number five seems a little generous.
