Gervonta Davis wasn't impressive against Gamboa

    That's just the reality.

A lot of us thought highly of him going into that fight but his performance was disappointing. A guy who is potentially special should have looked the part, especially against an aged Gamboa. But he didn't.

I don't know if it's because he is gaining too much weight between fights. Or maybe he took it easy during training camp. Or perhaps his power isn't going to carry up to 135 lbs.

I'm not prepared to give up on the guy but there are red flags about him now. Hopefully he buckles down and finds his discipline again otherwise he could be on the road to becoming another wasted talent.

That's the way I'm tending to look at it... it wasn't a good performance, but that can happen sometimes, even to the best fighters. What's more concerning to me is the continued issues around weight which suggest possible discipline and commitment problems. Like you say at the moment I'm still prepared to give the benefit of the doubt, but I'd really hope he shows up trim and puts in a clearcut dominant performance in his next outing.

You come overweight in a new weight class then that shows just how serious you trained for this fight. Both times he has come overweight, he has struggled. Davis clearly has issues staying focused and disciplined. It could be a good thing that he had to go 12 rounds here as if he just took Gamboa out in the 2nd round, then nothing would have changed in the way he approaches fights. This can be a humbling experience for him that makes him take boxing more serious....If not, then he's just going to have inconsistent performances the rest of his career.

Im thinking similar. I wonder if they really struggled last minute getting down to weight. I saw him in an interview from a week before and he still looked fat. I cant believe somebody who was knocking the soul out of fighters at 130 cant hurt a known chinny fighter at 135. But losing alot of weight in a short space of time can really take a toll energy wise. I am not going to write off Tank the Lightweight just yet. But he really needs to get his act together.

Tank isnt focused on being the best and some people just cant own that. Why is that?

That version of Tank isnt beating Lomachenko anyone with a heartbeat at 135. He knows it and everyone else who isnt a dumbass knows it.

But just look. Dude says hes interested in fighting Leo Santa cruz who is a 126 guy FFS. Tank you struggled to make 135! You're the best at 135 then prove it!

I dont get why some of the posters here, including you OP, have a hard time admitting that. Instead some of you, not you that I've seen, just wanna play the race card which is a ****ing joke.

I think I just admitted that in this thread.

He needs to take his craft more seriously if he wants to be great. Probably needs to stop hanging out so much with that idiot Broner too.

He's just another example of people getting excited over the quintessential American athlete. People always creaming over NFL combine type of stats and forgetting that sports are about skills and brains on top of the physical.

Tell me one time people didn't go all-in on someone who appears to have a lot of power? Not a single time...

What does he have going for him? He is explosive and has long arms (relatively speaking).

His problem is his team. He is full of false confidence and is in a dire need of a proper humbling, but I have a feeling that even if he gets a proper beat down he won't learn.

He needs to ditch his team and move to Puerto Rico or some place with no distractions.

These kids trying to be Floyd never works out. Floyd was the hardest worker, Floyd was a boxing genius, once in a life time type of guy.

At the moment, at 135 all he has is power, and that is now under question. Haney, Lopez, Loma all take him to school and are better in every way. There are probably at least three other guys I can think of that probably beat him now.

And drop the "Potential" nonsense, its about as overused as "athleticism" in this sport. Everyone has potential as long as you tick some basics, how hard are you willing to work?

he wasnt impressive...he wasnt awful either

i really dont get it....yes the weight thing is obviously a concern...as his the overall focus.....as others have mentioned....he could end up being zab or broner if he doesnt start taking notes on how floyd treated any and every guy like the guy coming to take the food off his plate....taking nothing for granted

but it just seems that everyone expected something different...like a stoppage in under 5 rounds...and when it didnt happen the only logical answer they could come up with is "Davis is trash".....

pretty much everybody expected the new england patriots to beat the miami dolphins on sunday...they were double digit favorites....the dolphins won....thats why they dont play games or hold fights on paper...sometimes thing happen

i still dont get it....was tank getting tagged? was he not landing? did he not knock the guy down and land some good shots? was he having a hard time finding gamboa with his punches? it didnt appear that way to me....you guys just didnt the result you expected....so the feeble minds response is something must be up......its boxing...things happen or dont happen....

You did and kudos to putting boxing first this time around. I really wish more people did this more often.
