How good was prime Mike Tyson?

I’m no Tyson hater or fanboy. It’s not about a fan narrative shuffling prime years or stating what we “know.” Mike was undisputed. That accomplishment deserves a measure of respect.

I don’t think there’s any evidence to suggest Haye could comfortably beat Bruno.

I don’t even disagree with Bruno being stiff or not being able to take a shot etc but Haye did absolutely NOTHING at HW.

Bruno had a decent jab and legit power I think that’d be enough to deal with Haye.

Let’s not forget Bruno gave Lewis legitimate trouble and has a very solid win over McCall. Haye on the other hand just fought absolute no hopers and then cashed out vs Klitschko. Good cruiserweight but sh** HW.

Head to head, mano vs mano, I'd put all my money on Haye and if Haye had to fight the ''champs'' Mike did, he would have been undisputed too.

Tyson May have preformed his best when he was very young, but it certainly wasent his “prime years” in the sense that’s when he had the most potential to be his best ever. Tyson is overrated as a fighter but not as an attraction. Fans want to give him more credit than he deserves because they enjoyed what he brought. It’s a compliment. Mike Tyson lost in one of the supposed biggest upsets in sporting history. Not someone else, but Mike. That should put it into perspective for people. I repeat this every thread I can, my old man told me a guy named Evander Holyfield would beat Mike Tyson the day after the Spinks fight. When it did happen hed only take even odds at the bar, because he didn’t want anyone to get put out too much. George Foreman would have a better chance at beating Mike then he ever could Evander regardless of what he says. I love Mike but he’s not the fighter a lot of people think he is.

George Foreman would have a better chance at beating Mike then he ever could Evander regardless of what he says. I love Mike but he’s not the fighter a lot of people think he is.

Ali and Joe Louis may be considered the 2 greatest heavyweights ever but I say that for Mike Tyson specifically, George Foreman was the worst possible matchup. So the mostly confirmed rumors that Tyson wanted nothing to do with Foreman makes perfect sense. Frazier didn't exactly have the peek a boo style but it was close. Foreman's game just simply owned that kind of fighter. Tyson would be tailor made to be flattened by Big George.

I also don't know how anyone can put Tyson in the top 5 great heavyweights ever. His "unstoppable" reign only lasted 3-4 years and during that time he didn't fight Holyfield and he didn't fight Foreman both of whom I would say would have been his biggest challenges at the time.

For all time greats, Ali and Louis are up there of course. I'd also easily have Marciano, Lennox, Foreman, Klitchko's, Holyfield, Holmes, and probably a couple of old timey boxers ahead of Tyson.

I'd put Tyson in a category with Liston, Bowe, etc... guys who looked unstoppable for a short time...

I'm pretty much in agreement here.

He beat 8 of the 10 top ranked HWs of the year he became champion. Demolished most of them.

HE demolished a Larry Holmes that 4 years later went on to beat a Ray Mercer that gave Evander Holyfield hell.

George Foreman admitted recently that he wanted no piece of Mike Tyson when he was on Max Kellerman's show

Indeed he did, and Holmes gave a prime Holyfield a decent challenge himself, even at 42 years old.
