I like the match-up, but it isn't a sensible fight right now. Ortiz has had two title fights, and beating Whyte would put him in title contention for a third time. I'm also not sure I want to see Wilder/Ortiz 3. I know Ortiz is old and has zero time to waste. Ortiz can fight one of the PBC Michelin Men (Kownacki and Ruiz) or Povetkin.

Why would he bother?????? Ortiz never beat a top 10 contender but Whyte has. Whyte is ranked number 1 by the WBC while Ortiz is 5th by the WBC. Ortiz is fresh off two KO losses to Wilder. Ortiz is the one who needs to do something good to redeem himself and get back into the world title race. Whyte is already the number 1 WBC contender and that is as high as you can go. A win over Ortiz would make him the number 1 contender but he already is the number 1 contender so why bother? Give Whyte is title shot at the winner of Fury vs Wilder if he beats someone else or even if he does nothing. He earned it. By the way Ortiz is ranked 9th by boxrec while Whyte is ranked much higher. Ortiz is not a top contender now.
