Apparently they were really good friends and it was part of the reason RJJ jr didn't go for the kill in a lot of his fights after that happened. Roy was really affected by what happened to Gerald.

McLellan really did fall in love with his power though. Towards the end, he was just like, the hell with defense.

Bro, you're looking through rose-tinted glasses. He got wins over Julian Jackson and a shot John Mugabi, the rest of his opponents were trash. He got absolutely battered when he stepped up to fight a prime, live dog.

He also lost to Dennis Milton, knocked out in one round by Jackson.

Such a shame Benn treated the back of Gerald's head like a carpenter's nail.

I wish his fights were known more widely... good stuff, was watching the two Jackson fights, and the Benn fight from start to finish yesterday.

The Benn fight was something else, would be one of the best fights ever IMO if not for the tragic ending.
You're right. Benn vs McClellan is one of my top 3 fights of all time. An absolute war with the massive underdog eventually winning. Easily the best performance of Benns career.
