These awards don't mean anything these days to be honest .. I feel sorry for persoon because Taylor's only got 3 top class fights left in her and breakhaus and Serrano both beat Taylor and if by some miracle she inches past those 2 there she will have nothing left to beat persoon with anyway .. even if it's persoon next she gets beat again and that's before you mention Cameron who I believe will beat her , her problem is the right progressive fights to make sure of it but I thibk she wins now anyway..

person is "way better"? she didn't even get a clear win over taylor. if she's so much better, it shouldn't even have been close enough to be controversial.

It wasn't close. It was highway robbery of the highest order.

Persoon easily won 7 rounds in that 10 round fight, then Taylor ducked the rematch. She knows she can't beat either one, so if she has to lose she'd rather lose to Braekhus because it's a bigger fight.

This is a farce. The Puerto Rican Princess Amanda Serrano and Claressa “T-Rex” Shields both deserved this award over Taylor. She arguably lost her unification and she ducked the rematch. Where as Serrano and Shields put on high stakes masterclasses that brought way more viewers to Women’s Boxing.

Not to mention Braekhus just defended her WBA/WBC titles for a 25th straight time, the WBC/WBA/WBO for a 22nd time, WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO for a 10th time, WBC/WBA/IBF/WBO/IBO for an 8th time, and WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO/IBO/Ring for a 3rd time.

Everybody wants to congratulate Taylor for becoming undisputed this year but Braekhus has been undisputed since before Taylor turned pro.

I didn't think it was that decisive at all. I'd give it a 2nd looks...but I don't care enough about women's boxing to do that.

Very strong case for Serrano—dominant in her two title fight and continuing to redefine pound-for-pound. Good argument in her favor for those who thought Katie lost to Persoon.

Shields only had one fight in 2019. Was one hell of a performance, but tough to give her repeat honors without a second fight on the year.

Was going to post my views on this, but the posters who posted before pretty much covered it.

Tend to agree in Serrano, not only did she win impressively, twice at different weights (and her ability to bounce around on the scales is actually incredible in itself) but she also got arguably the first elite win of her career in Hardy.

Katies kinda hard to pick cos of the Persoon issue, although the fight itself could well go down as a fight of the year contender in my book, and like you say Shields has only one fight and besides I personally see the lack of depth at the higher female divisions as a bit of a liability when it comes down to these kinda judgements (only 35 female MWs).

Cecilia's my girl, but the same issue lies at Welter as at MW, with only 55 odd fighters compared with well over twice that at lightweight or Feather, and Cecilia's sole opponent this year was... well let's just say Cecilia was a -2500 favourite even though Bustos was a top 5 contender.

So yeah. Hard to argue with Amanda as FFOTY 2019... far as I'm concerned she's the one really stood out despite Claressa making undisputed at 160.
