Personally I would have him work his left hook slowly on the bag the easier close range version until the left side of his hip was as reliable as the right side.

Right now hes like Tua, Tua had a tremendous right hook when it worked, but most of the time it didnt work and he just got by with his left hook, and he had a shoddy weak right, Deontay is the same except his right hand is perfect and he "gets by" with that almost exclusively but think how good he would be if he had a left as good as his right!?

I mean its not hard it just requires focus and time in training to develop. Id have him dedicate entire days or an entire week if needed to just getting a left hook a simple short ranged left hook as good as his right

(the long hook is more complex you dont want to be using anything complex when you are getting your hips down)

Lennox Lewsis said he comes at you with a straight right hand , I come at you with a right hand left hook overhand uppercut and every punch in the book done with equally perfect form and power.

Since Deontay is doing so well with just the right, (good hip jab also) it would be a crime against entertainment to not get the same level of hip control on his other punch/ punches , even if its just the left hook thats enough for x2 the fun.

Id try to not make him another Tua/Cooney/Frazier where they got by with only one side of the hips working properly they should have repped the other side up like mad. Imo.

What would you guys teach superman?

Jab, Jab, Jab. It will help him stop losing every round and also set up the right. I suppose it doesn't matter though when you rob the opponent on the scorecards anyway if they survive.

Obviously, it all begins and ends with the jab. This way he will be able to increase both his punch output and work rate. Once he perfects the jab, then he will become a complete fighter.

hes just always playing with them with his left distracting, visually impairing threatening the long left hook then he lands a sudden right from hell

how much should he deviate from his current style , which suits his very unusual level of power, and how much should he go towards being a textbook boxer puncher?

Does it serve him better to deviate from what hes finding success with?

I would guess yes so long as its a gradual change but what hes doing is working pretty damn well there's a risk that if he starts trying to box it could disturb something that is already proven to work.

I mean I dont think giving him a good left is going to be anything but a positive.

But getting him to box is it really what will be good for him, when he is so unusual in ability and style?

I think it would be, so long as its gradual additions that work, to what he does already. Your idea seems solid

But you can see why he gets by and succeeds without heavy use of the jab, he has a different style to orthodox because he can do things others cannot

People say he has a silly way of fighting, but the results show evidence to the contrary.

ie its not just the big right hand, he has his own clever way of getting results that people do not notice recognize or give credit to

I noticed when guys get a freakish gift, like RJJ with his speed foreman with his power and durability or Deontay with his power, the scientific text book way of doing things that is superior for everyone else, can actually can be inferior FOR THEM and them only

RJJ leading with a hook without setting it up for example, never would you do that under normal circumstances , but if you can if you are that fast and agile why wouldnt you do that.

Pick his shots better, he was too wild in the first Fury fight and be wasted a lot of punches swinging crazy, got tired a fee times.

Punch selection and mix in the hook/jab well to distract from the right hand, he really only needs to land one but he needs to make sure its straight. His selection was good in the Ortiz fight.

Implement the jab to the body often.

I wonder if a right to the body with that kind of power would finish guys? Solar plexus? Easier to hit too, then he can go upstairs mix it up a bit?

Hes so good at head hunting I mean you can see why he is the way he is , maybe hes a body hunter to with that much power?

Plus that may open up their head more for next time and slow their cardio,

That would work well with his current left arm distraction game.

A jab to the body would not make an intelligent fighter bring his hands down, knowing deontay's right was soon to come, a right there would so then the next time he is distracting with his left they think its going body and he comes up top
