Excuses we have heard before from fighters who lost important matches:

I hurt my hand...leg...wrist... in round x, the ref let him punch illegally, the ref was not letting me fight inside, I was fighting a cold...the flu, I injured my shoulder...leg...before the fight.
My wife...child..father...mother...other close relative was taken to hospital right before the fight
    And so on.

Excuses, not heard before, I didn't train, I thought that gaining more weight beyond morbidly obese would make me stronger, I didn't listen to my trainer, I wanted to hang out with the boys. I partied too much, I ate pizza before the fight...

    WTF

Well he wasn't supposed to win the first fight, and deep down I expect he didn't think he would win the rematch.

        That's not true.

Because he didnt fight like he wasn't going to win. He was touching joshua. He hit him with some strong shots. He was fighting.

He just didnt have the legs or the feet to stay with joshua. He was 280 ****ing pounds against someone with the body of an olympian bouncing around him.

He was too heavy. But when the distance closed a couple times in the fight, he was touching joshua. Arguably hurt him because joshua looked staggered.

But everytime joshua got caught, he would go back to bouncing or grabbing and ruiz couldnt do shlt because he was too fat.

Ruiz and Joshua talking about fighting again....lol....Fat boy Ruiz needs to wise up here he's just ripped everybody off .This kid is a disgrace and should have his money withheld .Ruiz should do us all a favour and retire unless the can get down to a decent fit fighting weight of around 16-17 stone he's a short armed little guy of 6" 2 FFS!

Doubt he will ever be a champion again, unless its some food eating contest. He doesn't have the discipline and he never will, I wonder if the Mexican fans will still hold any pride for a champion who embarrassed himself in such a way.

He made this big thing about representing his roots but embarrassed himself in front of the world. There's no shame in losing to the better man, but to not even bother and coming in at 20 stone, thats just sad.

I can't remember if it was you I was talking with on here last week but I was saying that Ruiz feet are too slow. Even in the 1st fight you could see that because AJ was doing fine until round 3.

I believe Ruiz trained properly, he and his team knew what AJ was going to do but they had to bank on AJ trading in the pocket. His feet are so slow compared to his fast hands and thats why I was predicting AJ to beat him as long as AJ fought the way he did.

AJ looked understandably nervous during his ringwalk but I was saying on Sat that Ruiz looked even more nervous, almost as if he didn't believe in himself and knew the 1st was a one off.

Ruiz had fast sparring partners to replicate what AJ was going to do. His team spoke publically for months about what AJ was going to do but its different on fight night. You got a guy with all the physical advantages except in weight boxing and moving and you can't make the distance up. The only way he could have was to try to lure AJ in for an upclose fight where AJ gives away the advantage and that was never going to happen.

There's still some good fights for Ruiz if he wants to work his way back in but he looks like someone that is gifted but doesn't work that hard. Until last year v Vargas he hadn't boxed since the loss to Parker. He needs to push himself.

This was like when Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson. He got in great shape, and shocked the world against an overconfident and under-prepared champ with an aura of invincibility.

Then he celebrated, partied, and showed up to his next fight (against Holyfield) fat. He would never come close to being champion again.

Let's hope, for Ruiz's sake, he finds a way back to his best form.

Go away forever, Ruiz. You won’t get another shot at the top.
