I mean it makes sense. the guy pretty much spit in the face of whoever bought a PPV or paid for an app. how much credit should AJ be given when ruiz openly admitted to not giving a fck about training.
if a boxer openly admits he did not train (like ruiz) should his purse be withheld?

No, boxing is always "buyer beware," besides, he's the idiot for putting himself in a more dangerous situation.Comment

Would be an interesting precedent to set. If only boxing was regulated like other sports. Maybe something could be done about obviously bad mismatches as well. No one wants to pay or see that other than the most casual of fans who just crave seeing outclassed guys get brutally ko'dComment

He though he could put it off with more weight... There is nothing wrong with that. There were also a few moments in the fight where he actually caught AJ with some solid punches. Who knows, maybe if he had landed a couple more back to back he would have hurt AJ and won. There is no telling.
But, I know the feeling you have and I don't think it applies in this case. The coming up fight between Jacob's and Chavez will undoubtedly stir these same emotions up when we all realize Chavez is just looking for an easy payday. I think Jacob's knows this so he's probably not gonna go for blood, but it would be nice if he knocked Chavez the fk out.Comment

I posted in another thread that this chit needs to stop
It’s fughin ridiculous
1 to the fughin fan
2 the sport itself
Not sure the whole purse or not sure how but I have said that hurting them financially will make anyone think twice
Guttierez comes in 14 pounds over weight last week
It’s fughin embarrassing for the sport and quite sad for who’s gotta watch it or go through it
Everybody laughs and wtv about UFC but they got divisions , hardly never see people completely over weight or out of shape ( many mismatches lol )Comment

AJ should be given a lot of credit. It was an immediate rematch. Ruiz didn’t get old overnight, or got KO’ed 2-3 times in between the first fight and the rematch. It was Joshua vs Ruiz I and then Joshua vs Ruiz II right away. Credit shouldn’t be taken away from AJ just because Ruiz took the fight as a joke. AJ put in the work and cane out with the W. Now Ruiz can sit sorrow and make excuses as to why he lost. Fights are won in the gym.Comment

At the end of the day, they declare themselves fit to fight when they get in the ring. Like it or not, that's the standard.
In terms of gamblers, PPVs - you see as much as you can when making your decision. You know you're taking a chance ******** on a fighter ahead of the day of the fight. It's part of the gamble. You could wait a few more days and get more information such as the weigh in... but the odds might move.
It's those who bought tickets and flights I feel for. But, again, we go into it with our eyes wide open. That's boxing.
Not sure how financial penalties would work. You'd have to have a "fit for purpose" clause in the contract... but how can a contract actually define that? It can't be weight as weight is part of a fighter's tactics.
So we just come back to buyer beware as someone said above. I mean, did anyone think there was no chance of this happening? It was talked about at length for the last 6 months.
Edit: By the way, thanks for the interesting topic. Let's see if it can hold up.Comment
