he did what he had to do in order to beat ruiz, if he fights intelligently and uses his natural attributes hed beat ruiz 100 times out of 100. that same style wont work on fury or wilder though, but it will work on the smaller hws. we have to assume his team are aware of that and will fight differently depending on the opponent, but changing styles from cautious to killer from one fight to the next is easier said than done.

aj will have to prove his greatness and adaptability against the other big two.

Honestly, even though the fight was mostly not that exciting, I did like what I saw from Joshua. Landed effectively, moved his feet around well, never slowed down. Technique/form and stamina wise, it was impressive.

If there is anyone to blame for the lack of engagement, it's Ruiz. It's not Joshua's job to be vulnerable enough for Ruiz to hit. He's gotta make the openings happen, which he was in no condition to do.

I mean I'll give you that Joshua made an effort to avoid extended exchanges by clinching and whatever else, but still.

There was one point he was going to go for the finish late on, but pulled back at the last second.

The instinct is still there...we'll likely see it in his next fight.

I agree. He looked gun shy to me. That's very normal imo. It happened to Lennox Lewis too and others.

After a few fights his confidence will be back i'm sure.

I thought Joshua fought a very brilliant fight. It was a masterpiece. I will go on to say that it was perhaps the best performance of his career. I've never seen him move and box like that while pumping the jab and landing the occasional right hand behind it.

In addition, he even shook Ruiz several times in the fight and wanted to end it but he thought better of it in being wise and not repeating the same mistake twice by being over reckless and over exuberant as was the case in their first bout.
