The Sweet Science as they say

Is clinching a staple part of "the sweet science"? Because we seen AJ doing a hell of a lot of clinching last night, and it was very effective in stopping Ruiz's inside work. Do unsporting/rulebreaking tactics = the sweet science if they result in not getting hit? How about turning your head or ducking down, then complaining about getting hit on the back of the head? Even if it's your fault for offering that part of your head up on a platter when your opponent is throwing? Is this dirty/cowardly tactics or just "the sweet science"?Comment

And where does it say you're there to get hit plenty and just land one shot? See, there are plenty of ways to win a boxing match.
I don't agree he just ran either... he outlanded Ruiz, landed the better shots, cut him, marked him. He did it from the first round to the last round. He engaged with his opponent far more than Wilder did in his last fight. A dominant, convincing win.
Not sure what more you could want?Comment

Its hilarious how this forum just descendsn into just fans arguing.
AJ did what anyone should do in that situation. You're fighting someone who's only opportunity to win will come from exchanges and hooking with you, and what, that should be what AJ does to prove he can??
He employed the tactics everyone said he should, but all his detractors said he couldn't, the Lewis / Klitschko boxing approach behind a lovely jab. Then he does it and shocker, those same detractors have decided boxing is about toe to toe tear ups and anything else is *****.
I'm just glad the mega fights against Wilder and Fury are back on the agenda, it's the best outcome for boxing.Comment

These are human beings who have families and lives after boxing. They don't really owe us anything other than to show up and do their job however they see fit. They're athletes not entertainers. Do you want every fight to be Gatti Ward ? I realize defensive boxing isn't exactly thrilling for most people to watch, and the Joshua Ruiz rematch was admittedly kinda boring, but it is what it is. You do whatever you need to do to win. That's how I feel anyway.Comment

AJ boxed well and followed a game plan that worked out for him, so what else is there to be said. He won decisively this time. They are both 1-1 with each other. Boxing has always been about hit and not get hit, or KO your opponent to win. Case closed.Comment
