There's more energy on this than the actual fights itself. Wilder/Ortiz 2 has been over for about a two weeks and detectives are still trying to find the actual ppv buys of the fight.
Why are folks so focused on fighter purses and ppv buys?

The best fights don't happen often enough so instead of arguing who is better, the worst fanboys argue over who is ducking who. One way is to use financial claims 'well his last fight was a flop so he should just accept whatever offer his biggest rival gives and don't complain or it's a duck' and it can go the other way 'his last fight was a success so his rival ducked in not offering more/accepting his offer' -

Its because certain fighters are hiding behind demands based on their so called star power. I wont mention names but one guy has turned down a number of fights for undisputed against Anthony Joshua because he felt he was the A side or joint A side cuz hes just a big a star, which he really isnt. So we dont get the fight we want cuz some dumb yank unnamed hillbilly has got greedy, so we look at why its not happened and who is being reasonable and who is being too demanding and generally stopping this fight getting made. Which means we need to crunch those numbers.Comment

Wilder and many of his fans made the whole thing about money and this is what it's lead to.Comment

Because boxers like Wilder won't fight for undisputed, no matter how much money you throw at them. But then they want to turn around and brag about how many people watched their "Fight Camp" videos hahah. It's a racket and a con. AJ fights in front of sold out soccer stadiums and arenas while Wilder fights in front of half empty arenas that gave away tickets and slashed the prices on the tickets they sold. Yet Wilder wants 50-50. It's ******. and Wilder's rabid fans will justify anything he says or does, even if it means they jusify Wilder saying that he wants "a body on his record". There is no way in hell a fight like the Wilder Ortiz rematch did 275k PPV buys hahaha. The fight couldn't even fill up HALF the MGM Grand and even most Wilder fans admitted that they didn't buy it. So it's a spin and a con when "multiple sources" say that it did 275k, but then they never name the sources.Comment

Probably not a lot different than someone bragging about how much their house or car cost or making fun of someone who can only afford a cheap car or lives in a ******.Comment

Because boxing is business first and foremost as much as we like to pretend its not, if the metrics aren't right then fights don't get made. The fighters themselves often point to these figures as evidence for their standing in negotiations, Spence has done this with Crawford as a prime example. So why wouldn't the knowledgeable fans discuss these things knowing that they affect what fighters demand and the possibility of fights been made...
"I made 5m to fight that guy, I want at least 10m to fight that guy who is more dangerous"
"I sold X amount of PPV more than this guy, I'm not taking less than 60%"
..... Its not a difficult concept to grasp, I just find it weird that suddenly mainly PBC fans want to prevent and police people from talking about these things when for years they used it as justification for their favourite fighters to make outrageous demands or even reject fights.Comment
