Hes far & away among the worst refs of all time. They don't call him kenny Mayweather for nothing. He literally visited floyds mansion to kiss his ass,& would regularly kiss his ass in interviews despite conflicts of interest especially considering he protected floyd like his 1st born son(not truly needed usually imho). The funniest thing is just like a certain espn fanboi of floyd in stephen a smith
treated them both like sht when they visited his mansion to kiss his asslips. Floyd LITERALLY showed them both zero hospitality

The best in the business. Every ref has their own style. Just like every home plate umpire has their own strike zone. You may not like Bayless style but it's effective. He never loses control of a fight and there's never any controversial decisions on his part that determines the outcome of the fight.

That is what you want from a ref

Cortez was my favorite though.

Edit Dracula's a great ref too. Forgot him in the original post, there's actually a bunch of good refs I'm sure I'm forgetting, but, Bayless is without a doubt one of the best.

Bayless is a poor ref.

I remember watching him ref Pacquiao vs Marquez II and I thought he was a very good ref.

But really had very little to do and the issues with Bayless is not when you have two fighters wanting to box.


Bayless does not let fighters fight on the inside, as soon as they get close, even if they have one arm free he dives in and splits the action.


What compounds this and makes it worst is when you have a fighter who knows he does this and makes tactical plans to clinch whenever their opponent gets close. If Bayless was strong ref, he would give warnings and deduct points, but he allows this, thus killing a fight and basically allowing the fighter to cheat.


Inside fighting is apart of boxing, tactical clinching isn't, but Bayless prevents the former and allows the latter, this is why he is a very poor ref.
