Agree with Ortiz. He deserved the chance to recover with so little time left. It would be different if there was more time on the clock but the ref should be aware of these things. Not only did Wilder get the chance in their first fight but the ref called time in the beginning of round eight to let Wilder recover even more. Too big of a fight to pull the plug so suddenly and in that situation.

I will look into that
As I have mentioned previously the refs have been warned protect the boxers from themselves
Jack Reiss will never do another Wilder fight
Wilder says he wants a body w a toe tag..but really he doesnt....
Boxing doesnt either

I thought it was a good stoppage. Ortiz would have been severely injured had the fight been allowed to continue. He's very tough, which is how he got up at all. Sometimes fighters need to be saved from themselves. He has a family and is reportedly 7 million dollars richer. He can rest his head on that pile of money and the fact that he had outboxed Wilder all night up until that big punch.

Check your pride and ego before you enter the ring
No one likes to lose. No one likes to get beat up. No one likes to have their pride and ego bruised.
Ortiz claims he was aware when he hit the canvas and that he heard the count at 7 and started to get up.. And that the count was a little fast.
When Ortiz went down. His eyes rolled into the back of his head. He sat up reaching to his face like he wanted to grab his mouth piece. He then started to get up... He was 2 seconds shy of fully beating the count. Even when he got to his feet he looked confused.
Bottom line is the ref made the right call. Sure he could have extended the fight by ignoring the end count but Ortiz was seeing stars from that hit and with 3 deaths this year in boxing, the call was warranted.
Just admit you got knocked out. Don't be a douche and blame other factors that didn't play a roll. You got beat. So what.

Bayless probably should've allowed him to at least go back to this corner, since the round was over any way. Now...if there was enough time for Wilder to land anything else, then I wholeheartedly agree with the stoppage.
Now....his body language on the way back to the corner would've told the story and hopefully....hopefully his corner would've made the correct decision.
I mean, he earned a right to at least be saved by the bell. I, for one felt he was done when he hit the deck, but c'mon....again, at least give the dude a chance to go back to his corner so we could hear the commotion like after round 10 of Martinez/Cotto. Lol
I just don't like the idea of the "gasping" effect that Wilder's power has on scorecards and the outcome of fights. We all know Wilder hits HARD, but whether Ortiz "would've been able to take Wilder's power or not" after the knockdown, shouldn't be a factor.Last edited by MeanestNiceGuy; 11-25-2019, 03:54 PM.

Good stoppage though. Some may understandably say that it was premature, but Ortiz already showed in BOTH fights that he simply can't take Wilder's right hand. The only road from there on was downhill for Ortiz.
