I only just realized that Bayless waved off Ortiz at 9 seconds (watch the fingers). I thought he didn't beat the count at first and had no problem with that until I just re-watched the count now. Ortiz was well ahead on all 3 scorecards and Bayless should have let it go into the next round. He went down with 5 seconds left and the round was over.
Holy **** !
I didn't realize until I watched the replay of that video. Ortiz was counted out early! I really didn't put too much stock in the people who were saying that Ortiz should have been allowed to continue but after seeing that video it's clear that Ortiz was counted out early. I thought it was just Wilder haters that were saying that, but I was absolutely wrong!
Ortiz was hit exactly when there was 6 seconds left in the round and he hit the canvas when there was 5 seconds left in the round. He beat the count (and it was a very fast count by the ref). Damn, this does seem a bit shady! After seeing the replay I really believe Ortiz should have been allowed to continue. I'm a bit shocked that I missed the whole timing of the knock down and the fine details of it! I can't help but feel there was something corrupt about that.
fcuk the wankers who... " served in the armed forces "
I don't give a damn what they decided to do for a job
I have just as much respect for bricklayers/plumbers
I don't always agree with what you say but I absolutely agree with what you said here. These armed forces men and women aren't going overseas to die or to protect the US , they're going over there to get paid and act like heros. They deserve no more credit than any other working man and woman. The government and media brainwash the citizens so that more zombies and mindless people will join the forces. It also creates national pride. Pride is the emotion of a fool.
When a fighter goes down its not just about them being on their feet before the count of 10. A fighter can be on their feet before the count of 10... but ref has to continue to check if the fighter is fit to continue the fight these include checking the eyes of the fighter, seeing if the fighter responds to verbal commands its not just about being on your feet before the count of 10. Moving on to Luis Ortiz you could even see the time the ref was at 9 and Luis Ortiz was trying to get on his feet or whether he got on his feet on time (whatever) he was still visibly disorientated thus the fight being waived of. I thought Ortiz looked discombobulated when he got up too, BUT, the round was over. He hit the canvas with 5 seconds remaining in the round. He should have at least been allowed to continue in the next round. There was something fishy about that stoppage. I thought it was on the up and up until one of the guys on this forum posted a video of that round and the knock down....Now, I'm a bit su****ious of the ref's motive. Check out the video and watch the time, then rewatch the ref's count. Even if Ortiz is still shaken after he got up, he should have still been allowed to continue.
Bayless should have let him continue. He was up at about 9-10, could have given him the benefit of the doubt. Ortiz was winning comfortably. Quite shocked at Kenny Bayless, he used to be a top ref. Of course, Ortiz never should have made that mistake and gotten knocked down, but still, they stop fights so quickly nowadays.
You don't think Wilder being a devastating puncher and how boxers have been dying in the ring played a little part in the stoppage? How would you feel if you had the power to stop a fight and let it continue and the fighter died? He was done get over it.
one thing u can always count on from a Cuban boxer is EXCUSES... a whole bunch of em too. I've never seen a humble Cuban fighter who just gives props when he loses. mofos ALWAYS got a story. this fckn senile clown should thank Bayless for saving his life. reminds me of Joel Casamayor with all his post fight excuses.
He should have just spat his mouthguard out. Obvious timewasting tactic likely to cop some flack but at least it shows the fighter is clearheaded enough for the ref to let them carry on.
