The first fight was really good, a heavyweight fight that was in the running for fight of the year is normally going to get run back because there are not that many quality big guys.

I think it was worth doing, especially considering how all events played out.

How does that clear it up? Does it change it? No.

It clears it up for that particular fighter, maybe not the fans. Comparing the Fury fight is apples to oranges as they weren't anywhere near the same thing. Wilder was given an extra 10-20 seconds vs Ortiz vs being outboxed and being given a gift against Fury. The Fury fight lingers more with people. You can see that in the fact that you have almost a consensus on this site NOW with people saying "nobody wants to see an Ortiz rematch" but were calling for it after the first one. Opinions changed with time after Ortiz, but we all still want to see a Fury rematch. That hasn't changed
