      No go for Lacy-Green
The proposed super middleweight clash between former titlist Jeff Lacy and Allan Green is off, promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com.

      Green

      Lacy

"Jeff changed his mind and said he didn't want to fight the rest of this year," Shaw said. "He didn't tell me why."

Shaw had been negotiating the fight with Green promoter Tony Holden when he Lacy told him about his decision.

"I was working on it when Jeff told me, 'No fight,'" Shaw said.

Lacy told ESPN.com that he wants to fight Green, just not in October.

"It has nothing to do with me not wanting to fight Green," Lacy said. "I was under the understanding that I would fight in November on Showtime. When it was announced for October I was shocked. I am not going to rush myself to come back from a fight like I had with (Joe) Calzaghe."

The reason: Lacy (21-1, 17 KOs) said that since losing a lopsided decision to Calzaghe in their March 168-pound unification fight, he has put on a lot of weight. Lacy said he got up to 195 pounds, although he is now down to 185.

"I've gone up in weight and I wanted to have good three-month camp and take the weight off nice, and not rush," Lacy said. "I am not going to rush myself to have this fight in October. After the fight with Calzaghe I needed to re-charge. I took some time off and I was looking forward to fighting Green in November, but I am not ducking Green. I never have ducked anyone."

Lacy said he still wants to fight Green in November. Showtime has a Nov. 4 card that has not been filled yet.

"I would still want to do the fight in November, which is when I thought I had a date anyway," he said. "If we can go in November I am cool with it. If not, we can do it early next year."

The Lacy-Green fight would have opened an Oct. 7 Showtime telecast headlined by the rubber match between lightweight champion Diego Corrales and Joel Casamayor.

Shaw said he hoped to fill the open slot with a flyweight unification bout between Vic Darchinyan and Omar Narvaez, which was penciled in to open Showtime's Nov. 4 card. The fight is contingent upon Narvaez winning an Aug. 4 mandatory defense against Rexon Flores.

Green (21-0, 15 KOs) last week knocked out Season 1 "Contender" participant Anthony Bonsante in the fifth round on "Friday Night Fights."
too early in Lacy's career to not fight again this year..if anything he needs to get in the ring with an easy tune up and KO him for some exposure and keep the ring rust off........he was all hype anyways.

When you say "all hype" do you mean he won't win a title again or he was over-hyped and just isn't Joe Calzaghe level. I think he can beat Green even if he isn't world class.

I think Green is green and he can possibly beat him. I think Lacy's has alot of power but skill wise is limited....I give him credit for fighting Joe so early in his career, but power alone will only get you to a certain level. Joe exposed that.

I don't really watch this division of boxing, but how bad did Calzaghe beat Lacy?

If you shouted that, it'd sound hilarious.

Especially seeing as how you'd make whistling noises because you don't have many teeth left, and you'd have a slight nervous twitch because your country can't defend itself.

You saw what the ragheads did to your subway right? lol

well i'll still a Lacy supporter.. anytime a fighter gets beaten for the first time (especially the fashion of the Calzaghe fight), that next fight back becomes VERY important to a fighter's future, with all the other players in boxing, pushing dates back, not deciding opponents, etc, (not naming names )..

i don't have a big problem with Lacy wanting an extra month before he fights again.. i'm sure we'll see him in November, it's only one additional month.. i think i understand his mentality

I also knew he wasn't ducking Green, so any haters can kill that noise

Joe won every round I think on the judges score cards...beat em up pretty bad and even scored a knock down late in the fight that might have been more from fatigue then anything. He was cut up and bleeding bad aswell.
