Lacy "I will not fight again this year"

    This kind of sucks......
    No go for Lacy-Green
The proposed super middleweight clash between former titlist Jeff Lacy and Allan Green is off, promoter Gary Shaw told ESPN.com.

    Lacy

"Jeff changed his mind and said he didn't want to fight the rest of this year," Shaw said. "He didn't tell me why."

Shaw had been negotiating the fight with Green promoter Tony Holden when he Lacy told him about his decision.

"I was working on it when Jeff told me, 'No fight,'" Shaw said.

Lacy told ESPN.com that he wants to fight Green, just not in October.

"It has nothing to do with me not wanting to fight Green," Lacy said. "I was under the understanding that I would fight in November on Showtime. When it was announced for October I was shocked. I am not going to rush myself to come back from a fight like I had with (Joe) Calzaghe."

The reason: Lacy (21-1, 17 KOs) said that since losing a lopsided decision to Calzaghe in their March 168-pound unification fight, he has put on a lot of weight. Lacy said he got up to 195 pounds, although he is now down to 185.

"I've gone up in weight and I wanted to have good three-month camp and take the weight off nice, and not rush," Lacy said. "I am not going to rush myself to have this fight in October. After the fight with Calzaghe I needed to re-charge. I took some time off and I was looking forward to fighting Green in November, but I am not ducking Green. I never have ducked anyone."

Lacy said he still wants to fight Green in November. Showtime has a Nov. 4 card that has not been filled yet.

"I would still want to do the fight in November, which is when I thought I had a date anyway," he said. "If we can go in November I am cool with it. If not, we can do it early next year."

The Lacy-Green fight would have opened an Oct. 7 Showtime telecast headlined by the rubber match between lightweight champion Diego Corrales and Joel Casamayor.

Shaw said he hoped to fill the open slot with a flyweight unification bout between Vic Darchinyan and Omar Narvaez, which was penciled in to open Showtime's Nov. 4 card. The fight is contingent upon Narvaez winning an Aug. 4 mandatory defense against Rexon Flores.

Green (21-0, 15 KOs) last week knocked out Season 1 "Contender" participant Anthony Bonsante in the fifth round on "Friday Night Fights."

I hope Jeff doesn't let the ring rust build up too much.He needs to get back in there, and reclaim some confidence after such a beating.

Clearly more damaged than we thought after the 12 round lesson JC handed out.

Well done Joe. I call immediate rematch so I can sit and laugh through another 36 minutes of untainted pleasure.

                    Drop the pomposity.

October still gives him 7 months from the Calzaghe fight. Now he's talking of potentially not even fighting again this year. For a fighter of his age and at his stage of his career I would think he would need to get through the ropes again ASAP. Not lounge around eating burgers letting the memory of March's beating fester in his mind.

I wonder if he'll recover from the Calzaghe schooling. Can't be nice to be exposed as that one-dimensional a fighter. His only glimmer of hope is that all the best fighters in the division are either way past their prime, or just past it.
