Comments Thread For: Wilder Declined DAZN's $100M Deal Because of Dishonesty

I'm actually surprised more people aren't holding Wilder accountable for his words here. I mean i'm a huge fan of his style and I love watching him fight! However he's based the last 3 years on continuously stating it's all about the unified, 1 name 1 champ. Why isn't 100 million for a 3 fight deal enough to live upto everything he's said? The only thing preventing him from fulfilling it all, was not knowing what AJ was earning? It seems like a foolish pass up of an amazing opportunity. 100% there may be more down the line, why not claim your dreams, then keep making the money you think you can earn? I had hoped the deal perhaps wasn't real or was exaggerated. However it seems it's all true. He is a free agent, this isn't an AJ stuck on Sky and not eligible to fight on BT sport situation.
Well anyway, it's his prerogative to pass up on his dreams - but I really want to see the fight!!

think about it...if he doesnt know what AJ would be earning he doesnt know the total value of the fight to DAZN....at least for the fighters pieceI'm actually surprised more people aren't holding Wilder accountable for his words here. wilder has now overall improved his position at the table(some through wilders own doing...some through AJs loss and vulnerability)....and they feel that their piece, in a ppv, is now worth more than that for 2 fights....its a fight that i think wilders people believe can do at least 1.5 on ppv with the proper hype
if wilder keeps winning the 1 title 1 champ dream isnt going anywhere....Comment

Shrewd business moves by Deontay Wilder and his team. This is a prime example of why a fighter (Wilder) should never sign their life away for a potential shot at the cash-cow (Anthony Joshua). Wilder is the "A-side" in his own right! It doesn't always have to be an "A-side" and a "B-side". The landscape in Boxing is too unstable, and can change dramatically, as we have seen with AJ getting bumbaclot'd by Andy Ruiz Jr.

Lol, Wilder can't remember which excuse he's supposed to use. First he didn't sign because he wanted to be in charge of his own career (and apparently a 3 fight deal takes too much away-Pathetic).It appears even the dazn execs said they were wrong according to this article and the articles of the past in which the apologies were first mentioned. Well done to wilder and his team Haymon and Finkle. And good for dazn admitting they were wrong and needed to build relationships....very different tone than a particular British individual used when he first came to the USA....
Now its because the were dishonest. So how were they dishonest?
"When asked to elaborate, Wilder instead chose not to offer too much in response." - Pathetic.
And excuse 3; I make loads more money than they offered anyway - Pathetic lie.
So we have three excuses as to why Wilder didn't want to unify the belts. Not one of them stands up to scrutiny, all are pathetic attempts to persuade people that he wasn't afraid to fight Joshua.
Americans will believe him to save national pride (your hero is a coward), anybody with intelligence can see it for exactly what it is.
Advice to Wilder; make an excuse that makes sense and stick with it. 3 lame excuses that change every time you speak doesn't look good on your record.Comment

“In retrospect, I was too brash going in there without creating the relationships I needed to create with the people who advised Deontay Wilder. I have now worked to do that. It has to do with going back to the education I needed before getting into boxing … When we left that (Wilder) meeting, I knew we messed up and that we weren’t going to be successful..."
The admission of wrongdoing is very commendable by DAZN! Salute to those execs for their courage! This must be really hard to swallow for Joshua fans! Not only did they not get to fight Wilder, but they got beat up by another Haymon fighter (Ruiz) in the process! OUCH!!!Last edited by Bronx2245; 11-21-2019, 06:29 AM.Comment

According to Hearn, Skipper gave Wilder the option of negotiating a fee to fight AJ alone, which was rejected along with the multi-fight deal. Nobody on Wilder's team has denied that.
Also bear in mind that one of the fights in the three fight deal was the mando with Breazeale, which Wilder was already committed to, and the other 2 were a fight and rematch with AJ. And Wilder had said that he wouldn't accept any offer to fight AJ unless it had a 2 way rematch clause.Comment

Screwed up where? Skipper was just being professional by keeping the options open for the future.
This guy has turned down every offer, despite not sending any offers - apart from the fictitious $50million email offer with 48hrs ultimatum. Who offers $50million without a legit legally binding contract in print for that type of money? I wouldn't even agree to a £100 contract without a legally binding paper I can read and see what I'm signing for.
AJ has found a new dance partner in Ruiz and in two fights against him - he would make over $120million for both fights combined. Over $30million for the first fight and the rematch should top $90million once all the revenue streams have been added. In so doing - he would become a bigger star once the script for the rematch is acted out.
I don't know about the US - but everyone in the UK is waiting for Dec. 7. And the fight starts at 10pm out here (1am in Saudi Arabia). It's basically like fighting in the UK and the whole country would stand still for the fight, thus making it the most watched boxing event in British history. I'd be shocked if the PPV numbers aren't between 2.5-3million buys.
Wilder on the other hand would be struggling to sell 300k PPV buys for his rematch with Ortiz (I won't be shocked if he doesn't do more than 100k buys tbh, despite all the promo).
It's prize fighting and he needs AJ to make the type of money he dreams about. And when he was offered a life changing offer - he should've taken it. However, right now, regardless of what he does in his career - I don't see AJ fighting him again, unless he begs and crawls to UK to take a flat fee. AJ has made his money and he can ride into the sunset without looking back - win or lose. He probably just needs to beat Fury like a thief, if the ***** and his caraven bandits can stop fighting uber drivers and take a real fight in the UK. AJ beats Ruiz and then smash the one eye that's left on Fury's face after Wallin destroyed the other one - and he's cemented his place in the hall of fame. Wilder can continue his circus with PBC belt and fighting bums, while avoiding Whyte, his WBC mandatory.Comment

Yup now most of us won't watch it at all.
People here root for others based on the color of their skin first and who promotes them second.
A way distant third is how they fight and if they enjoy watching them.
I would have loved to fire up DAZN this weekend and watch the fight but there's 0% chance I'm paying $75Comment
