Could a SWARMER Beat Canelo?

Alvarez and Floyd both counterpunchers. Floyd ATG counterman yet had the toughest fights where Maidana and Castillo swarmed him.
They used their thug aggression to go inside and set a higher pace.
Difference is Alvarez has previously been tired in fights. Could he keep up with this faster pace and endure punishing bodyshots to continue fighting strong? Current swarmer talent is lacking. I'd like to see Alvarez respond to elite opponent who forces his way inside to punch in bunches.
They usually sacrifice defense too letting their hands go that much. Though a high output offense can itself be a good defense but not against everyone, especially a sharp counter puncher like ol' Canelo there.I agree. Canelo is a brilliant fighter, and he keeps improving. I think we've consistently seen his opponents holding themselves back for fear of getting nailed with meaningful counters to the head and body.
"Discourage the opponent" is exactly right. Jacobs was terrified of launching any real offense for a good five rounds, and was never able to grab the initiative in any sustained way. Same goes for Golovkin in the second fight, same goes for Kovalev who did a nice job keeping things competitive with his jab, but who wore down exactly as Canelo expected him to. A great jab isn't enough.
That said, with Jacobs and Kovalev, I felt both of those guys were pretty content to be competitive and walk away with a fabulous paycheck. They experienced Canelo's ability to make you pay, and left it at that, without pushing hard for a victory.Last edited by GrandpaBernard; 11-19-2019, 02:25 AM.Comment

It’s sad to see boxing fans bring up Lara or Trout or even Floyd as examples that are “bad” for Canelo.
It’s as if people acknowledge that if you solved some quadratic equations in High School that you’d have the same difficulty for the same equations in advanced calculus.
Canelo now in his prime can figure out any fighter. Being the best counter puncher, and a savage one at that, means he is ready for “swarmers” and pressure fighters. GGG tried, but couldn’t commit to land anything meaningful when Canelo decided to move like SRL.
I’d say Liam Smith was the last “swarmer” after Kirkland.Comment

we could've found out if paul williams had stayed healthy. sam soliman was past prime by the time Canelo came around but he was an underrated swarmer, gave Winky some issues and won rounds against him. canelo likely beats both but would've been interesting
sergey d swarms opponents at times but doesn't have elite stamina/volumeComment

Difference is Canelo can hit and hurt you unlike Floyd who would pitty pat you to death while prancing around for 12 rds.Alvarez and Floyd both counterpunchers. Floyd ATG counterman yet had the toughest fights where Maidana and Castillo swarmed him.

The fact is a swarmer could beat Canelo and it's already been done. But. Even though they deserved the nod what do you think would happen?
Why do you think Canelo waited GGG out 3 years before committing to that fight? And why do you think after the toughest fight in his career against GGG he got popped for PEDs? Why do you think that GGG3 didnt make sense then and now it does?
Canelos power is vastly overrated and if it's not now we all know exactly why. PEDs ANYONE? Dude couldnt even hurt Junior middle weights and now people think he has legit power at 175?
It doesnt matter what Canelo does because the casuals will continue to suck his nuts. Dude could get knocked down and his fans will tell you that he let that happen because he wanted the fight to be more competitive. Dude could get bullied around a ring and that's "fighting off the back foot". Dude could be breathing with his mouth wide open and theyll swear to you hes not tired.Comment
