Ortiz should had taken the AJ fight. He would definitely gotten a fight for a title for a lot of money. He is getting this fight now but there is no guarantees in boxing.
His gabled worked out and he is getting paid for the rematch. Wilder can'c say that Ortiz was not given an opportunity when he had an offer whether it was legit or not.
After the AJ deal got rejected Ortiz was not to happy with his teamComment

When you turn down a bumper pay day, money you haven't came close to seeing before, and a shot at winning 3 world titles, that's when your boogeyman status disappears.
Wilder can't say that no one else has given/offered Ortiz a shot and risked facing him, as that's simply not true. He was offered a second shot at a title, and said no.
It would of been a risky fight for Joshua too. Ortiz didn't want to take it, Ruiz did. Ruiz stepped up, took the risk, took the big money and took the belts. His life changed and now he gets to do it all again as a rematch came as part of the deal.
Ortiz was given the call before Ruiz was.Last edited by Chrismart; 11-18-2019, 07:32 PM.Comment

There's people in the sport crying out to be picked as a stand in opponent. That is the nature of boxing. History has been made in such circumstances.

Probably peds related.
Wilder is much more frightening than AJ will ever be. And much less reward.Comment

Ortiz rejected the opportunity that Ruiz Jr grabbed with both hands. He could have been putting the final touches onto a different rematch altogether right now, and then looked to fight Wilder with all the belts on the line - arguably being the A-side due to having more titles. Oh well life is all about decisions, and Ortiz isn't the only one who should be thinking "what if?" Apparently up to 16 different fighters were looked at, I wonder how many of them turned down an offer like Ortiz did before Ruiz pleaded his case? Let's not forget Miller either, he must wondering why he was such an idiot.Comment
