A lucky punch is when a clearly inferior boxer who had been losing the entire fight connects with one big shot to win the fight.
You can tell whether it was a lucky punch by what they do afterwards.
Oliver McCall vs Lennox Lewis is the prime example.Comment

Watch that fight again. Rahman/Lewis might qualify but McCall was on his game that night. Also Jimmy Ellis(the white one) vs Tony Tubbs.Comment

Rahman had a lucky punch in that fight, but at least he had a great career afterwards.
After Lewis beat him in the rematch Rahman still had 6 more world title or interim world title fights, including becoming WBC Champion again.
McCall got beat so bad he cried in the rematch and then fought nobody but bums again.Comment

It is a pretty ridiculous term to use in boxing. You punch with the intention of hurting your opponent. That is always the goal. Therefore, how can I punch be described as lucky? Because it did what it was supposed to do?Comment
