Time sure flies. Seems like yesterday that he was an relatively unknown prospect brought in as a replacement to fight Shavers in their first bout. The rest is history.

Come on, introduce him at a big bout. He earned it.

That was depressing as hell to read. I was never really a Larry Holmes fan, always respected him, obviously know he is an all time great Heavyweight and underrated, but I agree, he really does deserve some kind of recognition in a big way.

          Larry Holmes

Larry Holmes is definitely one of the greatest heavyweights of all time! He's in the top ten...he had skills, punching power, boxing ability...and that JAB!

Larry Holmes is a hall of famer and one of the greatest heavyweight champions, and I am sure all the boxing historians would agree!

Mike Tyson said in his book about how Cus always talked about how he would beat Larry Holmes, as Holmes was champion when Tyson was a kid and being mentored by Cus. Whenever Mike would do something wrong Cus would say "How are you gonna beat Larry Holmes if you do that wrong" etc....

Most Ali Parkinson's came from sparring where he would let sparring partners beat and beat on him to make his mind and body tough

He would just cover up..and take shots

Skill wise he was the best but when he faced brute strength he doesn't do well

I can empathise with Larry, but I'm also tired of his strident whining.

Holmes is undoubtedly one of the best HW's of all time - certainly in the top 20.

His lack of recognition is partly not his fault as he came of age after - and before the greatest and most celebrated two heavies of all time - Ali and Tyson.

But he's been whining ever since he stepped into the ring, demanding respect and recognition - which is not his to determine and only serves to put people off.

Yes he was. That jab was gold.

Many fans wanted to him to lose to Jerry Cooney, me included. He just didn't have that charisma and/or notoriety like Ali or Tyson.

When he was pumelling Ali in the later rounds, he kept looking to the referee to stop the fight. I believe he was an Ali sparring partner at one time; and during the fight he recognized when a former great had nothing left.

I hope he can release his bitterness towards boxing media.
