Mayweather is pretty dumb. He can't read at an elementary school level.

Hughie Fury probably? I think there is a huge difference between being elusive and boxing IQ. Fury seems to have no answer yet, on how to actually be effective. He just can't seem to work out how he can avoid punches and actually score himself. He's clearly blessed with great speed, granite chin and probably some pop too, he just has no knowledge on how to actually utilize it. I always find it baffling watching him.
I feel like I should add, this comes with a caveat. He boxes "taxi drivers" with a wonderful punch selection - but the moment he has to actually think, he has no boxing brain at all. Everything seems to escape himLast edited by Articulateboxin; 11-12-2019, 08:46 AM.Comment

I always thought James Degale was the best example. He was a very skilled and talented athlete but he had no brain for strategy whatsoever. Eubank Jr. is similar, he looks great against no hopers but the couple of times he fought fighters with decent boxing brains in Saunders and Groves he looked totally out of his depth. I thought it was fascinating when the two of them fought because both of them were so lacking IQ-wise that the fight was actually hard to call, although in the end it was Eubank who won out as the fresher and stronger boxer. If Degale did have some boxing IQ I think he would have been able to outbox him.
Anthony Joshua's Ring IQ has greatly improved, but that has been through pure diligence to improve, it honestly does not come natural to him 'You can almost see him thinking inside of the ring'.
Tyson Fury's ring IQ is overrated also, Wladimir Kiltschko would of beaten him in the rematch, Fury at elite level thus-far has been a one trick pony.Comment

That is a good observation, they have all the moves 'But lack creativity and mathematically tactics inside of the ring'. A fighter with high ring IQ, will not really need to be told what to do? It will come natural to them, just like certain snooker players can envision 2-3 shots ahead in the game 'Ronnie O'sullivan was once described to have this ability' Fighters such as Mayweather, Hopkins even Roy Jones could predict what moves and tactics their opponents where going to use. 'Fighters such as Chris Eubank Junior REACT to things what happen to them inside of the ring'. It is this ability to almost warp time inside of the ring, was the attribute basically that made fighters psychologically give up against Floyd Mayweather 'And fall into a routine of implementing the same moves continuously' I have seen no fighter since his retirement who has this ability 'None'.

If I hadda pick someone who springs to mind as relying more than most on outright physicality rather than ringcraft I might be thinking of Kirkland, but that's probably only because I noticed he's back in action a few minutes ago and his names at the front of my mind.Comment
