If he's unloved by some here in the UK, it's due to his own behaviour - admittedly this is prior to his comeback, other than general mischievousness he's been good as gold since then.
Before he got his head in order he rubbed absolutely everyone up the wrong way. He constantly made sexist remarks and xenophobic/racist comments in the public forum; and openly preferred to be recognized as a gypsy/traveler rather than as British. He also came across arrogant and holier-than-thou, which didn't help endear people to him.
If you want to be loved, you have to give people a reason to love you - appreciation of professional skill is something else entirely.Comment

Basically he beat Wlad in a fairly uneventful fight, especially for the casual viewer. Around that time he was also outspoken on certain topics that got him maligned in the media, so he was pretty disliked and nobody would give him any credit for his boxing achievements.
People like a comeback story though. Seeing him lose all that weight and those problems and get back in the ring made people want him to do well.
Then he gets in with Wilder, and a lot of people here were starting to think AJ didn’t want Wilder, so they see Fury get in the ring with him when AJ didn’t. They saw him school Wilder, then get up from a huge knockdown when he seemed out. Then he gained a huge amount of fans from all of that. Public perception changed almost overnight, literally.
Then AJ gets knocked out by a little fat guy. We know Ruiz is good but imagine how that looks to the casual fan? - AJ become a bit of a joke at that moment and everyone realised Fury is the real deal. Fury gets up from Wilder’s shots, AJ spits out his gum shield and basically quit’s against a little fat guy, that’s how the public saw it.
Fury becomes a fan favourite after all that and people release he’s actually a top fighter, not just a loudmouth gypsy. AJ become a Meme.
The public are fickle but that’s how it is.Last edited by deathofaclown; 11-11-2019, 05:34 AM.Comment

Did he ever make a racist comment? I’ve never seen that, nor has anybody else.If he's unloved by some here in the UK, it's due to his own behaviour - admittedly this is prior to his comeback, other than general mischievousness he's been good as gold since then.

He did make a remark about ***s. Well, i’m from a ***ish family and wasn’t offended. He only ever said that a lot of the media and banks are run by ***s, which is true anyway. No ***ish person i know or myself would be offended by someone stating that fact. But others like to be offended on behalf of us..
He has made comments which could be certainly seen as ****phobic and sexist though, no doubt.
Racism? Not at all. Don’t spread those lies.Comment

Brits know him for what he is. A pretty dull boxer and professional bs artist.
The Americans think they know him from watching one fight against Wilder. And they swallow his bs. And Bob's bs. They set the bar pretty low because they know they'll get plenty of takers.
It's pretty simple. Like the American casuals.Comment
