So many deaths in boxing today because the ranks are filled with guys that shouldn't be fighting, and the fact that fighters barely fight anymore, they even spar less. They aren't as tough as they used to be and the ranks are filled with a different breed of person. All the old guys had huge thick skulls and thick bones. Lots of testosterone.

      R. I. P though, tragedy

They aren't running faster. They got better equipment. They threw the new sprinters on dirt tracks w leather cleats and a launching hole. 90 percent of them couldn't beat Owen's record lol.

Also boxing is declining, sprinting has continuously been worked on.

There should be a fund all boxers, promotors, managers, networks, etc.. pay into to compensate families of boxers who lose their life in the ring. I think it can be done.

Reminds me of running track a LONG time ago. My shoes had 1" spikes, and the track was made up of volcanic cinder rocks, like the kind landscapers use. But still my time in the 100 yard dash as only SECONDS off the world record (LOL).

From sparing? That is tragic...Rip & my condolences to his family. As far zerafa, this can either give him an an even bigger boost to repeat win horn or mentally affect him to lose

At the end of the day, all humans are vulnerable and there’s only so much damage humans can take, some more than others but there has to be a limit. I wonder if one day soon, we reach a point where boxers strength far outweighs the amount of punishment we can take, then we have a problem.

Whether people like to admit it or not, boxers now are faster, stronger and more powerful than in the past. Every sport evolves, it’s just harder to measure in boxing because there’s no official measurement like in athletics or something where there’s a definitive time or measurement record, but we would be ignorant to think other sports athletes are better than the past and boxing isn’t.

We just don’t realise these things because we watch great fighters and fights from the past and they look great, but it’s all relative to the opposition too. Go watch Carl Lewis race in the 80’s and he looks like he’s absolutely flying. Drop him in a 100m race today at that speed and he would get left behind and nobody can dispute that because the facts are there.

Of course, give him all the same training and nutrition then it’d be different, but that’s the point isnt it. All today’s boxers have great nutrition and coaching to make them even stronger, but i think humans can only take so much punishment.

You make some good points. Athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster than decades past. Obviously boxing has weight classes but the advancements in training and nutrition have to have an effect. Lou Dibella has recently addressed the subject of sparring but how can it be regulated? Boxing has a dilemma on it's hands. Can you realistically make the sport safer without radical changes that would negate the excitement factor of knockouts? The NFL has enacted rules for vicious hits but boxing does not have that option. The recent boxing deaths are a tragedy and I wish this fighter's family and friends condolences. RIP Dwight Ritchie!

It’s a bit confusing but if this trend continues there will be pressure to stop boxing altogether. RIP Ritchie.
