Why are Mayweather and Canelo so polarizing?

I do not consider myself a fan of either of them, and yes I’ll admit, they both had some decisions and lucky breaks that seemed like more than just skill or coincidence. With that said, both are talented fighters who did a lot for the sport we love most.

So tell me, why do most people on this site seem to be fanboys or haters? Where are the people like me who aren’t fans and do “smell a rat” in both of their careers, but still respect their ring craft?

They get the most hate because they've beaten popular fighters. People don't like it when the fighters they support lose.

Because Floyd lives for himself and answers to nobody.

Most people are tricks to their job and/or living to make ONE woman happy

They see Floyd flaunt the flash and freedom making them feel ****ty about their own shortcoming.

        As for Alvarez

I'm a fan of his style but dislike the extremely favorable judging he often gets

Was rooting for Kov to outbox him. Wanted to see if Alvarez ever has neutral judges

Well I think there’s more people like you than you think. But controversy sells. Antagonistic posts get the most counter posts. Names and labels are thrown around here all the time, and we notice them. It’s just like other media today. People agreeing usually ends in one reply. Text wars use up way more space. Everyone on here is at least a boxing fan. Truth is we’re happy enough to argue about boxing with someone than discuss another topic. It gets ugly for sure, but secretly I think we all appreciate everyone here more than we think.

according To Mike Tyson Floyd runs around like a scared little man he can’t even walk his kids to school. Can’t even be alone has to have Body guards they probably even follow him to the crapper does that sound like happy ? You have to pay guys to hang with you . He can’t even have a normal family with wife and kids. Now if your a family man would you trade your kids away for Floyd’s money ?

People that have never been in a position to call their own shots just can’t put themselves into those shoes.
Fighting Floyd or Canelo brings life changing money and fame. When you have that type of status you use it to your advantage and create your own success.
Their polarizing because not many people can fathom walking in their shoes.

Life as a top 20% man let alone a top 1% man >>> family man.

Tyson was emotional and butthurt. He felt Floyd slighted his childhood hero Ali who also visited him in juvie detention center.

Be serious. Floyd is a one of the most skilled fighters ever. Most civilians would get a beating regardless of size. Civilians being a threat to Floyd lmao

Simple, Floyd & Canelo are both symbolic of everything wrong with the sport of boxing.

From being allowed to break rules by the governing bodies when it's convenient, to getting decisions most people don't think they deserve to taking advantage of there being so many alphabet belts to claim multi-weight class titles to being perceived to cherrypicking opponents & fighting them past their primes.

You add this on top of the fact that they are getting richer than everybody else while doing this.

                  There's gonna be some hate

This is actually why I think boxing is gonna struggle if it doesn't become more uniform like UFC & create some universal standards & rules that apply to everybody.

They’re both very good and hard to hurt real bad. Hard to put down. Canelo was accused of ducking several fighters, like Trout, Lara, GGG. He fought them. Fans don’t like it when a fighter exhausts their options of guys they claim you’re ducking. They feel ****** and have nothing else to do but call them names and make memes.

Some fans want brawls, they want fighters to get hurt and come back, they want to see fighters trade knock downs. Canelo and Mayweather don’t provide this. Even at the very top level, Canelo has yet to get hurt real bad. Last time he got visibly hurt was vs Jose Cotto when he was like 20 years old. His critics clinged on to that for a little while, they loved that clip. But nothing like that has happened since.

He has beaten some good names and is only 29. Trout, Lara, GGG, Cotto, Jacobs, Kovalev. And some lesser names vs overmatched or old opponents like Rhodes, Khan, Cintron, Mosley, Chavez Jr, Angulo, Kirkland. He has a good resume at all levels, from A to C level fighters. He also has a good record 53-1-2. He doesn’t have an extensive amateur career, so he learned on the job.
