Hopkins: Canelo Learned Defense From Mayweather

    disagree or agree?

During broadcast interview with Bernard he declares Canelo learned defense from Floyd fight.

The young Canelo was clearly inspired by Floyd's style. This mature Alvarez idk

It's quite easy to tell. I've thought that was pretty obvious.

Canelo's defense looks nothing like Floyd's.

it really does. so do his counters off the defense. he's a real student of the game.

I would question what Bernard was looking at because Kov was outboxing Canelo and was ahead IMO when Canelo got the KO. I don't think Canelo showed Mayweather/Sweet Pea level defense.

I chalk this thread up to more legacy pumping hyperbole.

Canelo already was the same fighter, what it actually is is that he has learned from every fight hes been in,& the Mayweather fight taught him how important it was that he was weight drained,& it taught him how to fight much smarter not harder but with same style.(that he got from Mayweather)

This is why I say he always had same style because of trout fight

Compared to more recent like Jacobs:

Regardless of his critics due to next day weigh in,it is extremely unfair for a 5'8" fighter to let his opponent come in at actual heavyweight without slowing him down a tiny bit from being allowed to fight a guy 2 weights below with a 20 lb difference in weight to add to every other advantage he already had..(just as it was unfair for Khan when he faced khan(even though Khan is actually taller)

Remember kov had til very late fight time to gain non-stop. Much more than enough for someone who usually weighs 183

You can't "LEARN" that, Canelo blessed with excellent Reflexes and Timing

Sure of course all fighter take little movements from the Greats but we also see Andre Berto and Adrien Broner FAIL and trying to use the shoulder roll because they don't have the timing or reflexes for it

Canelo is very versatile though, he can box but he can also stay in the pocket and FIGHT while still being smart defensively and making guys miss from within the pocket

He had to change his style up for this fight due to Kovalevs size
