Hugo Ruiz was fighting even lower than Rigo. Dude started his career a flyweight, moved up and lost as a bantamweight, then won and lost a title as a super bantamweight. He won the WBC strap and literally lost it his next match lol. Rigo was arguably the best super bantamweight at the time Loma faced him, and even at 39, would still probably be the favorite against Ruiz.Comment

I remember being absolutely astonished at just how much better Loma was during the fight. Rigo had never been in the ring with anyone close to his boxing skills and IQ and was clearly unaccustomed to being second best in a fight. There were so many fans saying Loma would never fight Rigo and that he will avoid him as he's nowhere near as good as people say he is. I was even a little sceptical as to how good he actually was, especially after the Salido fight. Then he got in there and just put an enormous exclamation mark on greatness as far as I was concerned.Comment

Hardly. Loma had too much speed and angles for Rigo to keep up with. Rigo gave up after like half the first round.Comment

My memory is not the best, but I do remember some things. I know one of Rigo's Sparring partners and apparently Rigo was smoking 2 packs a day in training camp to help him relax. In sparing he also broke his hand the day before the fight but refused to get it treated. Here is the Xray.
