Comments Thread For: Gonzalez: Shakur Stevenson's Good, Not Great Like People Say

RENO, Nevada Joet Gonzalez acknowledged that Shakur Stevenson was much better than him Saturday night. Gonzalez still doesn't see greatness in the skillful southpaw who decisively defeated him in their WBO featherweight title fight. "I think he's good, but he's not great like people are still saying," Gonzalez told FightHype.com following his unanimous-decision defeat to Stevenson. "I mean, he still beat me. You know, no excuses, but I think there's more special fighters out there."

I don't get it. By Gonzalez's estimation Stevenson is good but not great but he totally outboxed him. Does that not make Gonzalez bad?

That was masterclass, a lesson in the sweet science!

Now we know Shakur can go 12 without any hinderance and the pressure fighters will pull out the best in him!

Gonzalez will be back as he’s a good fighter but lost to a special fighter!

      Stevenson vs Warrington next!

Gonzalez is admitting that he's a bum. If a guy only lands 4 punches per round then the guy you're facing must have epic skills or you're a bum for doing so poorly.

It was an excellent display of class. I don't like Stevenson but from what I seen, hes the real deal.

BUT I wont necessarily say Stevenson can beat all pressure fighters because he beat Gonzalez lol! Until Saturday I had never seen Gonzalez fight but right before the fight when they showed the keys to victory and it showed Joet goes into a high guard when attacked, I knew it would be easy pickings. They'll be guys out there thatll take 2 on the chin and keep coming like a mad man.

Pathetic Gonzalez with limited skills and no heart/balls should just keep quiet...

Lol he had to go into the high guard or he was gonna get hit with the jab or countered with the left hook!

When he didn’t he was getting clipped with hooks and jabs whenever Shakur wanted to punch!

He tried different thing like mauling Shakur on the inside, push him to the ropes by attacking the body, moving his head and jabbing coming in but none of it mattered cuz Stevenson was always a step ahead, quicker, faster, and has very good defense!

Warrington is a guy who will bring the best out of Shakur has he throws a lot of punches and keeps coming nonstop!

Hopefully Warren puts up or shut up with all that talk about how no American fighter wants to fight Warrington!

Come on man. You can't say he's the real deal when the kid hasn't even fought anyone yet. Dude is basically a 130 pounder fighting at 126. He's still gaining experience and learning how to fight as a pro. He has potential to be pretty good yes, but as of right now his style is still very amateurish.

So a man who lost cannot have his own opinion . Pleaseee.

Stevenson won handily and i was impressed with his discipline.

                  Special fighter?.... HE.IS.NOT.THERE.YET.

Joet is pretty garbage TBH. IMO you could take 10 of the average athletic black kids of Stevenson's size that grew up in a rough hood, meaning they've had quite a few street fights. Give em like 6 months of daily boxing lessons, get them in boxing shape and 6-7 out of 10 of them would probably beat Joet's azz at the end of that 6 months and i'm not even joking.
