Comments Thread For: Stevenson-Mayweather CompuBox Comparison, Fights 9 To 13

Shakur Stevenson put on a masterful defensive performance Saturday night vs. Joet Gonzalez, winning a vacant version of the Featherweight title in the process. Stevenson's performance immediately brought out comparisons to Floyd Mayweather. CompuBox compared the stats from Stevenson's 9th thru 13th fights (his last 5) to those of Floyd Mayweather's from his 9th thru 13th fights.

I think this supports what a lot of people were stating this past weekend- PBF was a more exciting and aggressive fighter then Stevenson. I know, I know, compubox needs to be taken with a grain of salt; but thats a decent sample size.

The real variable at play is opponent, was Mayweather able to be more aggressive in those fights because of who he was matched up against?

Regardless, the PBF version of Floyd was a joy to watch, although I'm still a lil upset at him for taking down Manfredy.

In other words ; Shut up about him being the new Mayweather. He's himself ; a good boxer. That's it.

"Mayweather's opponents had a combined record of 63-50-8 (52.1% win pct.), while Stevenson's opponents had a combined record of 117-8-1 (92.9% win pct.)"

thats for me tells its own story. maybe floyd knew he was fighting bums

Difficult to compare the two of them at this time, but I will say a couple of things.

            1. Mayweather had fought better opposition, so his defence to offence is more impressive from a quality standpoint

            2. The compubox process has improved over the years with improved technology, so they have become better at counting - which is a plus for Stevenson

From the eyeball point of view, Stevenson acts more as a pure boxer at this point and has the southpaw advantage and youth on his side. He also has not developed his man strength yet, and therefore has to run more I think.

Stevenson still fights like an Amateur while Floyd had more of a pro style. Big difference there. Also for the most part PB Floyd fought guys his size some even naturally bigger as he started off at 130lbs. Stevenson is fighting guy's naturally smaller than him, he's a 130 pounder that's fighting at 126.

IMO Stevenson hasn't even really proved he's the real deal yet and won't until he moves up and fights guys his own size like Loma had to and then still to even come close to Mayweather's level of greatness of 5 weight classes no losses, he'd have to go all the way up to at least 147 at some point winning titles at each weight along the way which, let's be real doesn't seem feasible for Stevenson.

Represent Brick City to the fullest young man. We need a franchise playa in the game. If they comparing your stats to Floyd's this early you going in the right direction.
