My first memory of boxing wasn't actually watched, I listened to it! It was the Bruno vs McCall fight, my folks couldn't afford sky back then so we had to make do with listening to it. I was caught up in my dads excitement and it sounded like bruno was badly hurt in the 12th, the 4 of us (mum, dad, sis and me) were all on my parents bed shouting encouregement while listening to it on my dad's bedside radio haha.
I didn't become a hardcore boxing fan though until 10 years or so later. I remember watching what looked like a super hero, fighting on the undercard of Mayweather vs Hatton. It turns out this super hero looking dude had actually been defeated once before and I was fascinated to see how anybody could hurt this dude. That's when i discovered Joe Calzaghe and ended up watching all of his fights (The Byron Mitchell still a favorite..the commentary makes it
) and then discovered ringmagzine and started reading about boxing every lunch break, watched all the interviews and watched it almost every weekend. I'm still doing that 14 years later!

1st fight i remember watching was when Barry McGuigan won his world title in 85. My dad and my uncle were big on Boxing back then and the big fights were shown in my house with drinks and food, they must of let me stay up for that one and the excitement was contagious.
Also another guy that really got me in to this sport was a domestic guy from Norwich called Billy Schewer. He had some good power and he came to fight and they used to show him on a some combined sports highlight package and his fights were exciting. Then as i took more interest Mike Tyson turned up and Nigel Benn and i fell in love with the sport for good.
When Prince Naseem Hamed turned up as a pro though my family were throwing parties for his fights. He even got the attention of the mums and aunties in the family.Comment
