Joe Tessitore is an idiot and has no clue what he’s talking about.

You didn’t hear of lineal when George Foreman surrendered his IBF and WBA belts but was still being introduced as lineal champion? Or when Briggs won that title from him or Lewis from him?

You didn’t hear of lineal in the Tyson/Michael Spinks debates during the 1980s?

What about when Leon Spinks has to vacate the WBC to give Ali a rematch?

The reason you didn’t hear it before the 80s was the recognized champion was always the lineal champion before the ABC title mess.

Fact of the matter is there is no such thing, been watching the fight game since Frazier/Ali I, and I only heard of this "Lineal" crap when Fury gave up his belts and wanted them back.

Why would you equate the lineal championship with fairy tails?

Ok, so now I've heard it a couple times, Fury & these two obscure fights you dug up.

That's it, I've never even heard of it other than Fury and you being so wrapped up in it.

I still find it to be a farce and if I hear Joe say "the man, who beat the man" one more time I'm gonna puke.

So those mandatories are pointless and ******.

Canelo was the middleweight champion because he beat Cotto who was the middleweight champion because he beat Martinez who was the middleweight champion because he beat Kelly Pavlik who was the middleweight champion because he beat Jermaine Taylor who was the middleweight champion because he beat Bernard Hopkins who was the middleweight champion because he won all the ABC belts.

I’m sorry you like Golovkin better than Canelo, but there’s no dis*****g that one.

                your middleweight " champion ".....

                1) had never fought AT middleweight

                2) had never fought A middleweight

which is hilarious when you think about it

Hopkins cleaned out the entire division.

It’s not an opinion, it’s the guy who beat the guy.

Adonis Stevenson beat Chad Dawson who beat Bernard Hopkins who beat Jean Pascal who beat Chad Dawson. That was a 1 vs. 2 battle because Dawson had won the WBC and IBF titles and cleared out the division by beating Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson, who both beat Roy Jones.

you can call Canelo whatever you like, but... he had never weighed more than 155, and he only beat a faded JMW who weighed 153

he was not even a middleweight... let alone a middleweight champ

again, you can call him whatever you like

this is proof that any sentence starting with the word "technically"... and any sentence followed by the word "but"... is bullshlt

Fury is the man to beat. He's the lineal champ, a lineage that began with Sullivan. The cope is real.

                      155 is middleweight because it’s above 154.

Again, he beat Cotto, who beat Martinez, who beat Pavlik, who beat Taylor who beat Hopkins.

It was also for the WBC middleweight title. It would have been for the WBC and WBO but the WBO stripped Martínez for no reason.

It doesn’t get any more real than that.
