The reason you didn’t hear it before the 80s was the recognized champion was always the lineal champion before the ABC title mess.

Nobody was talking about "respectable publications", and Joe T uses the term every other sentence when he babbles on about the heavyweight division.

It was also for the WBC middleweight title. It would have been for the WBC and WBO but the WBO stripped Martínez for no reason.
