Roy Jones- Badi Ajamu weigh-in Thread

Jones desperate to save career...boxing Prince could be end for RJJ...

    July 28, 2006

Some boxing insiders believe Prince Badi "The Boxing Prince" Ajamu will end the illustrious career of five-time world champion Roy Jones, Jr., tomorrow night in Boise, Idaho. Prince Badi (25-2-1, 14 KOs) defends his NABO light heavyweight title in the 12-round main event against living legend Jones (49-4, 38 KOs) headlining the Hold Nothing Back! pay-per-view event. Although clearly the underdog, Badi has an edge in several categories for this match-up against the 37-year-old Jones, who badly needs a win after three straight losses, including two devastating knockouts by Antonio Tarver and Glen Johnson. Another defeat will likely spell the end for RJJ.

Can Jones show he can still be a player in the light heavyweight division? Or will Ajamu demonstrate to "His Royness" that his time is past and it's time for the younger light heavyweight athletes to take over?

Badi has improved his training regiment and camp, adding valued experience to his team, and he worked extremely hard to be in the best mental, physical and spiritual shape of his career. More significantly, though, is that he has dreamed about an opportunity like this and, despite the much larger stage, Badi has remained completely focused. And Prince is a very hungry fighter, something that often determines the difference between winning and losing in the ring. Prince feels that this fight is his shot to prove that he is a world-class performer.

    We'll find out Saturday night

Saturday night in Boise Idaho, Roy Jones Jr returns to take on Prince Badi Ajamu in a light heavyweight championship fight at the Qwest Arena. A recent article by the Idahostatesmen quotes Roy Jones Jr on what Roy considers his mistake in the past and why he is not to blame for slow ticket sales for this weekend's bout.

On what mistake Jones Jr did in the past that lead him to defeats, Jones is quoted by the Idaho Statesmen saying: "The mistake I made in the past was I stopped worrying about me and started worrying about everyone else."

Jones Jr. tells why he is not to blame for the promotion of the fight. Jones Jr said: "Roy's got to
do what Roy's got to do to win the fight. Roy's got to get back on track. Roy can't go out there and spend all this time promoting the fight and then not win the fight. Roy's got to win the fight and then he'll promote later." - dhb.com

      ----------------------------------------------

The weigh-in is at 2 p.m. MT time. I believe that is 4 p.m. central time, so they results should be available at any moment.

He hit Griffin while he was down, so that's fair. He got the revenge KO after Griffin started talking about Roy's mom, so what needed to happen happened.

Unless you are referring to something else...

No, that's what I'm asking about. I'm not dis*****g whether or not it was fair (because I like Roy, and it was) but what you thought about seeing him do it.

I think he just got carried away. I've seen a lot of boxers do it, and I always think it's odd, but that can happen in the heat of battle. Also I think it's likely Griffin was overplaying it because he knew he was about to get stopped.

The Jones, Jr. pay-per-view is a value-priced one at one $20-something against the regular $49.99 type of deal. I have mixed feelings on the whole thing. I've seen Prince Badi Ajamu fight and it was a decent fight...but nothing got me excited at all. Is it worth paying the value-priced money to watch Jones, Jr. in his possible last fight, or should I just go with Boxing after Dark? What are you guys doing, and what suggestions do you have?

Roy looks a little big, but in shape. I think he's been training hard enough but probably not dieting as much as he should be. It's hard to tell. These pics must be from yesterday.
