Savate is overhyped in my opinion, it gets alot of its reputation as an effective style from the JKD circles.

But pitted against thai fighters I think they would come up short I think so too even against western kick boxers , they have good boxing but the kung fu style kicks are not that powerful and dont lend so well to the sport environment.

As for the street the savate rear leg push kick to the knee is overrated as a self defense move, its probably not what you want to be doing in a street fight its a little awkward to hit accurately and you dont want to throw it as a first strike, and I dont think it does enough damage anyway most of the time.

The economical kicks to the groin etc are good but they are really just front kicks, groin kicks, kicks to the bollocks.

The rest are fast economical but weak kung fu style kicks.

Its definitely worthy in teh discussion its an art I respect and like, those guys are real fighters. I just think the lack of power in the kung fu kicks lets it down. Also their foot work is very bouncy I dont think taht lends well to good round kicks even if the mechanics are similar to a western kick boxers.

You make a good point if its no rules where you kick to the bollocks that makes a difference. I was thinking under sport rules.

It gives all the weaker styles of kicking more of a chance because they typically have good front kicks and some have narrower stances.

Its hard to say how effective nut kicks are kick boxers go down all the time to them, through a cup, but some fighters take them and keep going because of adrenaline etc

I think muay thai is the winner for sports rules.

For the street (or rather only kicks allowed but groin kicks also allowed) I think muay thai also , its not like they cant throw round kicks to the groin, cant defend them, or even throw them themselves, its the most simple kick and the basic thai knee is all the mechanics you need for a good front kick chambered or not , they also have several stances some protect the groin more.

Then how reliable are groin kicks vs leg kicks , id rather go for a groin kick because it might only be one kick on the other hand it may be a never ending thing where it never works, so then leg kicks become better, but this is kicks only so for no limit on what you target rules wise you still only kick so muay thai wins both as my guess

Id say muay thai has a 65 - 35 chance of winning in sport vs the next best style kicking only, theya re just going to wear everyone else down more efficiently

In no target limits ie groin kicks allowed I think muay thai has a 55-45 chance of winning vs the next best style (its slightly let down on the groin issue but perhaps not as much as ud think, and its a clear winner at low kicks which will get the job done if groin kicks fail, so despite being let down a bit on the groin shots overall its still more effective I guess )
