Comments Thread For: Macklin: Golovkin Looked Old, Canelo Will Now Jump at Trilogy

Matthew Macklin, who several years ago was stopped by Gennady Golovkin, believes his former foe looked old on Saturday night. Golovkin barely survived a challenge from Sergiy Derevyanchenko at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. GGG won a very close twelve round unanimous decision with scores of 114-113, 115-112 and 115-112.

GGG now fights like old people fck, slow....predictable, etc.
he looked old and slow, and when he walked back to his corner he did it slow, he was gasping for air, and was happy he got a nut at the end.

dayuuumm he lost more than a step in that there ring.

These people don’t get it, it’s about control for Canelo. It doesn’t matter how GGG looks if Canelo wants to fight him he would. He doesn’t want to just because he doesn’t like GGG self entitlement (In Canelo mind) attitude.

canelo doesnt give a F about triple G now days. he doesnt offer much to canelo after his recent performance (not to mention canelo genuinely hates him). triple G just needs to defend that **** against a mandatory before getting stripped again. those IBF cats dont play around.

Nah dude, he definitely looked old. Throwing single digit punches in some rounds. Eating jabs and straights all night because his legs are straight up shot. Some people can beat father time going up close on 40 and some simply cant. GGG best days are done, his best fights already passed. Such a shame, he did put on some good shows.

I still believe had Golovkin not disrespected Alvarez on two separate occasions, the third match would been signed by now. The first time was when Golovkin tore into Alvarez as a cheat after their rematch was cancelled. Regardless of how any of us in the peanut gallery feel about those failed tests, Alvarez will never forget all the things Golovkin said about him while he was suspended. Alvarez HAD to do the rematch- there was controversy of the first fight and the doping insinuations hanging over his head. Once he got the decision in part 2 he had gotten his vindication. The second time Golovkin completely disrespected him was how he stormed out of the ring and did not give Alvarez any credit for the win after the rematch, and all the "gift decision" comments since. It is simple math: Alvarez does not care if Golovkin would be easy work or the best challenge. He does not want to give Golovkin the payday or the chance for redemption because he hates the guy. Had Golovkin taken the high road with Alvarez either time mentioned above, there would be no problem. But when Golovkin made it easy for Alvarez to pass on the third match due to his refusal to go back to Vegas, Alvarez likely closed the door on a third fight for the foreseeable future. Alvarez does not need a third fight with Golovkin. Golovkin needs that third fight with Alvarez. It will either happen on completely Alvarez terms, or not at all.

Canelo is less going to give GGG a fight now. DAZN will give GGG his biggest premium from his $100mil contract of about $30mil for the final fight with GGG retiring. Team Canelo wants nothing to do with that shady business and entitlement retirement package for Loeffler and his final scheme
