Why doesn't Callum Smith get the same praise as Usyk?

Prior to the tourney - Usyk didn't fight anyone and I remember seeing him struggle against some African boxer.

It's a mix anti-British bias and overrating Eastern European boxers like most have been doing of late. These casuals don't watch fights, they just follow the popular narrative in the media.

The main reason? Lack of exposure to the US market. Call it Joe Calzaghe Syndrome if you will.

Fighting the John Ryders of the world won't exactly help (and I like John quite a lot, but...).

If Smith can demolish the vastly-overrated David Benavidez in Las Vegas and then acquit himself well against Caleb Plant--even if he loses that extremely intriguing match-up--his profile will rise exponentially.

Sorry excuses when it comes to certain boxers. AJ also won an olympics gold and he went to the world championship a month after he got out of prison and won a silver medal. Then unified twice with 7 titles defences in the HW division. But I don’t see idiots calling him a great boxer. So what makes Usyk special?

This guy was out there struggling against 36-yr old Breidis and getting his face blasted by a pedestrian Bellew, lol.

Usyk unified his division. He was the baddest man at that weight. He might not impress you but he's achieved more than Callum Smith which is undeniable.

Smith might turn out to be better, but until he accomplishes more then you can't say that he's better.

Callums resume is as pathetic as this thread.

Callum hasn’t beaten anybody period and hasn’t looked as dominant as USYK beating guys on their turf, stop being ridiculous.

USYK hasn’t struggled against anybody honestly and considering he is now moving up to HW, Callum Smith ain’t worth the fungus on USYKs toenails.

You don't see anyone calling Joshua great?

I'm not saying Usyk is great, just more proven than Callum....Josh is too.

I see plenty of people call both Josh and Usyk great. The only name mentioned in this thread that isn't called great all over this forum is Callum Smith and it's for the reasons I already explained. Not a gold medal winner, not an undisputed, not even close to it.

I'm not a massive fan of Josh or Usyk but I understand why both of those guys have more respect than Smith. Smith hasn't done anything.

Hunter gassed out hard - you don't get credit for sprinting at the start of a marathon and losing. Have you ever boxed/fought anyone? I don't mean this in a bad way but I'd guess you haven't. Even grappling with someone your own size is one of the most tiring things you can do, if you are fighting a bigger stronger man there is nothing more satifying than when some 'beast' is exhausted and you make them your *****.

An ogre at 20% of their limit will get steamrolled by a man at 60% of their limit. You weather the storm and then take over, boxing/combat sports are a thinking man's game - even if 99% of the audience just see two men throwing punches.

Yep Mchunu is a spoiler, very defensive. Fighters like him can have 10 losses on their record and in not one of them the victor looked good in beating them. Chilemba, Hughie Fury are other examples.
