They SHOULDN'T be. But they are. There's a "street" no matter how you slice it. You're talking different networks, different promoters, different broadcasters, venue split, tickets, etc etc etc. That increase how much money has to be made. And no matter what some of you think, Crawford isn't pulling big numbers - mainly because he hasn't shown up at 147 with a CLEAR win over anyone nor has he fought anyone worth a damn.

He could have fought Manny, but Manny went to Haymon. Had Crawford gone to Haymon, he probably would have gotten Broner right out the gate as a gatekeeper. You can't get a more lucrative fight than Broner - despite him not being very good. That adds brand name.

Tank Davis = draw. Shakur Stevenson = not a draw.
Errol Spence = draw. Terence Crawford = not a draw.

That means there's clearly a street - because the fighters that don't draw are all with Top Rank. Didn't use to be that way, but it is now.

You're ignoring what your eyes have shown you.

The moment Manny jumped ship he got put in with Broner, made a good payday, put in with Thurman and got another good payday WITH a good belt PLUS he's now listed with the upper level of the division. And all he had to do was join PBC, and quality fights got made.

It's sad that Adrien MF'n Broner has faced more quality opposition than Terence Crawford by now, but Broner's been with Haymon since the beginning. That's why he keeps getting set up despite not deserving it from a skill perspective. He sells for people to see him get his ass kicked.

Then you got Wilder/Fury with Deontay Wilder fighting a top heavyweight while Fury's now faced lesser opposition and got bloodied by one of them.

"At the end of the day", PBC is doing the business good. If Crawford wants those fights, he knows what he needs to do - the same thing Manny had to do. Stay with Arum and fight Mike Alvarado if you really want to do that. Alvarado's still a name.

I'm sure both guys could have gotten more had this been a Showtime Championship Boxing event but the upside w/ PPV is infinite. Spence and his people must really believe he's the new money man. If it bombs, FOX probably stands to lose very little given the purses. Low risk.

Ugh. Just.... ugh. Got a steaming pile of nothing to respond to that, because I know you are 100% right.

Spence (and Porter) gave up $1m each of the downside money, to make an event that should be worth as much or more on the back-end, yet the author wants to talk? Lol

This article presents the salary reduction as somehow being Spence's fault, or a reflection of him.

It's neither, this is a reflection of Porter, and his failure to tap the main******, not to mention, he does not have a fan base.

Mikey had a fan base, he is Mexican American, and a PFP fighter, of course Spence made more to fight him.

Doubtful this fight sells at all, this is a showtime championship boxing main event, making it a PPV is Spence's team rushing to be Mayweather, when they are not.

If he fought Canelo, Crawford, Manny, that's PPV, not this BS, you need a dance partner, Porter is a hardcore folk hero, but that's where it stops.

                Hence, Spence's salary is lower.

I believe it. Unless they start letting other promoters put fights on their network - i don't see it happening. All the good fights are going to Fox. Everyone else seems exclusively locked in on their respective networks

Most of the money will come on the back-end, of which both guys are going to eat, lol.

                    Think for a second.

Guaranteed pay to all the fighters (broadcast and off of TV) likely comes to $7m. You figure cost to rent Staples Center, costs related to technically putting on the show, marketing costs for the event not covered by Fox Sports, etc, you've likely covered the costs of the entire event at $9m

$18m in revenue gets you the $9m in proceeds (as the heuristic goes), so if you don't take in a dollar anywhere else, you'd need roughly 275k PPV buys to cover and break even.

But then you remember that they've sold a really good amount of tickets for the fight at the 20k-seat Staples Center, the UK TV (I'm not sure if this will simply be in the ITV deal or if Sky Sports bid up for this fight) is bringing in a nice but of coin, the event sponsors are putting forward some money, Fathom Events put up some money to closed circuit the fight nation wide, the rest of the international TV has value, there's going to be event merch that brings in money, etc.

The exact numbers will be whatever, but the rest of that money coming in on the event likely takes that breakeven number of 275k and cuts it in half to near 150k, if that.

To top this off, the event is likely expected to go over 350k anyway (with the chance to go higher depending on how the casuals take to Spence and seeing Porter so much already).

Could easily be in a spot, soon after the event, when Spence-Porter got their $2m each on fight night, but then have another $10m to divvy up the week after the fight, with more possibly coming in after that.

Khan and Brook could be fronted more to fight, but what does the actual pay package look like at the end of the day.

its the same clowns over and over who think haymon just takes loss after loss after loss with everything he does and never does anything right or good...lol......the same lot of sad losers just repeating the same stuff

like i believe some of these clowns actually convince themselves that spence wont make more than a dime over the 2 mil for a ppv fight.....when nobody can actually be that ******
Only thing I wonder about is, where are these side checks coming from ? Like where is this extra money being pulled from and why is it such a secret? It's been years of people saying that these guys are getting extra money but we never know how much or from where. I could see why people don't necessarily believe it.
