canelo is a late bloomer as far as weight goes.

Hes elite, and world class in some divisions, but ATG is way out of his jurisdiction for now.

I do not think he can beat Kovalev a proven elite at LHW.

Canelo has really come into his own since his rematch with Golovkin. He's reached a level of craft that I think everyone can say has instated him to the top of the p4p rankings. I find it interesting though how it isn't until now do we see his boxing craft develop so exponentially. His shot selection, tenacity, poise and overall professionalism has made a huge leap to where no of us will be surprised if he stops a full sized light heavyweight knockout artist. H3ll it wasn't too long ago at all that he was going the distance with blown up welterweights and light welterweights in competitive fights with the likes of Cotto. I guess the basis of my discussion is, is Canelo a late bloomer in terms of where his craft really took off? Ruminating about Duran, Leonard, Floyd, Pernell, Trinidad, Cotto, Pacquiao, etc.. I think you'd have to say.. yeah?

Since Alvarez's MD over GGG, he's had victories over Fielding and Jacobs.
That says nothing about ATG status, except he beat a paper champ and a Golovin retread.

I don't put too much credence into when and how much these guys moved up and mainly judge it on how big of a presence they were at any given weight. Cotto was running guys over at 140. Canelo was going the distance in close competitive fights.

Im not talking about it in terms of moving up, just as a reference point. Because at 140 Cottos biggest win was Paulie M. So at 26 years of age, Cottos biggest win was Paulie M. Cotto wasnt really an early bloomer. Canelo was more so. Canelo at 27 had his first GGG fight and his whole resume before that.

This fight with Kovalev is a very good one BUT what exactly has he done to make him some kind of ATG candidate already? Arguably couldn't beat GGG and beat Jacobs and Fielding with special weight restrictions. Got some pretty good wins at Caneloweight but not great ones.
