Does Canelo get trashed the way Garcia did or will everyone just come up with bull***** excuses for Canelo?
I liked Mikey. And thought of the spence fight as a ****** fight for him to take. The problem was his arogance before the fight. he didn’t speak, act or train like the underdog.. him and his team acted like they are levels above spence and created a lot of expectations towards him to atleast be true to some of his words only to perfom like that.
A lot of people supported his quest to greatness.. only to be arrogant and get humbled like that.
Canelo gives Kov proper respect. Albeit not proportion to the challenge Mikey took when facing spence, this fight is still a huge move and largely intriguing considering others, like his counterpart GGG don’t want to even move up a single weight class.
As the art of war says, if you know your enemy and know yourself.. good chance u gonna win..
Mikey and his team was so full of the latter.
You just cant compare Spence to Kovalev and neither Garcia with Alvarez... different beasts.. Different Levels..
Spence Jr is more technical and has higher ring IQ but isn't a more dangerous fighter than Kovalev. Kovalev is every bit as dangerous just with a different style and approach.
Mikey is better p4p and h2h than Canelo to me. Canelo has gotten by on gifts and hype and is biting off more than he can chew with Kovalev. Different levels but not many, and in favor of Mikey. He disappointed in the Spence fight but at the same time chased greatness.
Does Canelo get trashed the way Garcia did or will everyone just come up with bull***** excuses for Canelo?
I personally think that's a pretty good comparison. I think Canelo will look extremely small in there with Kovalev.
Why did Garcia get trashed ? Who trashed him ? Spence was the favorite in that fight, right ? It was Mikey's first attempt at "daring to be great", right ? I think maybe Mikey got "trashed" a little, because the way that bout played out, it just seemed like a dumb move to even make the fight. What did he think he saw in Spence, that made him think he wouldn't be dominated like that ? Almost like it was a waste of a fight.
Now if Canelo gets dominated like that, you can bet he will get trashed worse than Mikey. First of all, it looks like the odds will be against Kovalev. So Canelo is expected to win, where as Garcia was expected to lose anyhow.
Nobody accused Mikey of cherry picking a prime Errol Spence. They were like..."What are you doing dude, you can't make 135 and face Lomachenko ? WTH".
People are divided bigtime over Canelo/Kovalev. Some think Canelo is underestimating Kova, and he's in for trouble. Others think Kovalev is shot and it's a total cherry pick, like any ol' SMW could also defeat Kova. You can damn sure bet those people will be trashing Nelo, giving no excuse...…
I'm sure others would be disappointed, if Kova beat up Canelo ALL night long, and Nelo looks out of his league, but that obviously means that Kova is not really that shot.
The only way it's an exciting fight is if Canelo at least has a chance to win. I project the odds to get closer before fight night and expect Nelo to do more than Mikey did. If Mikey would have had ONE round where he got Errol in trouble, and made it seem like an upset was attainable...he wouldn't have been criticized much at all. -- SO Canelo has to have at least ONE RND, where he looks like he could possibly win.
According to that criteria, that's all that is needed for it NOT to be a Spence/Garcia replay, worthy of trashing. But sure, if that scene does play out AGAIN, absolutely there'll be criticism...
I think Canelo will get respect for trying. He picked the weakest champ at 175, one made to fit his style, but it's still 175 and a dangerous opponent so he should get respect.
If Canelo didn’t try to win and just stunk up the place in survival mode, he should get trashed.
That is the least likely outcome though, I think.
Exactly. In reality, what are the odds that "Kovalev beats Canelo the way Spence beat Garcia" ?
Does the OP know what it would take for That scene to play out ?
If Canelo has even just ONE ROUND, where he looks like he could possibly take Kovalev down and win, he's already done more than Mikey did...
So sure, if Kova dominates ALL night long in a shut out embarrassment, you're damn right Nelo will get trashed the same if not more, than Mikey did. (But I wouldn't hold my breath for that one).
I am not a huge Canelo fan BUT I will give him 100% of the credit whether he wins or loses.
The dude has balls going up to 175 and fighting the most dangerous 175 guy, with no bs catch weights and no rehydration clauses.
And in reality, this is a win win win win win for everyone.
Boxing fans get a GREAT fight and for both Canelo and Kovalev... there is no downside to the fight, no matter who wins or loses.
I think TRUE boxing fans should be really happy with this fight. Who was it that once said the best fights in history are those where boxers fight out of their comfort zone.
For Canelo... he is facing a powerful and dangeour fighter who is not a roll over.
For Kovalev, yes, he is facing a smaller guy, and anyone else coming up from 160 to 175 he would KTFO in under 3 rounds... BUT... that guy is perhaps the most talented boxer of this decade.
That's what makes it interesting.
More interesting is knowing that this fight will be in Vegas, and Kovalev WILL NOT be getting a FAIR decision... he will need to either Dominate Canelo like he did Yarde or Hopkins... better Hopkins.... OR he will need to KO Canelo.
For Canelo... it will be about surviving the first 5 or 6 rounds to see if Kovalev will slow down and then try to KO him.
Let's be honest here... Canelo had stamina issues in the GGG fights and I think Jacobs fight. He is moving up so he will be slower here... is he going to get caught by Kovalev?
Kovalev is JUST as smart if not smarter than GGG or Jacobs, and Canelo was not able to KO them at 160...
IF Kovalev fights smarts and behind the Jab as he did with Alvarez and Yarde... Canelo will have issues... and those jabs are not going to be powder puffs... but 175 lb LHW Jabs from a guy known to have a heavy jab.
