When Vargas fought the top contenders, he gave them a run for their money and sometimes beat a couple of them. When Gatti fights top contenders, he gets dominated. Vargas 1

Who made more money and gained better populatiry? both were about the same (not accounting the fact that gatti had more fights)

Who has a bigger resume in terms of opposition fought? Vargas 1

Who beat better top competition? Neither

      Ring experience/more knockouts? Gatti 1

      Vargas.

Damn....I am the only can't decide.......I suppose Gatti due to the action factor but Vargas had more big meaningful fights......even tho he lost most of them,so did Gatti.

I have to go with Gatti. If you asked who was the better fighter, I would likely swing towards Vargas, though every time either of them stepped up to elite fighters they lost.

Gatti's career was longer and filled with much more toe-to-toe action. From a fan's perspective, it was a far better career.

Vargas's career was cut short when they threw him to the lions against Tito. If they had let him build his way to the elite rather than just throwing him in too green he may have really been something. Pity that.

I can't believe this is even being asked. It's ALL Vargas. He gave two sure fire hall-of-famers extremely tough fights. He also beat much better opposition, and when he lost, the fighters who beat him were much better than than anyone who Gatti was ever competitive with, yet he never got nearly as ****ed up as Gatti did.

I agree with you, but the question is a bit vague. What makes a career "beter"? In my mind its who did you fight, who did you beat, how did you look doing it. To others a career is evaluated by how long it was, how exciting it was, what they did for the sport. It all depends on how you look at it. But for my record its Vargas no doubt.

Against Better Opposition Vargas wins hands down.
But What Gatti did for Boxing hes miles ahead of Vargas, Gatti was able to get thousands of people watch him fight no matter who he was against. He was able to get into the hearts of others by showing cheer courage. He was able to get people into boxing by showing guts and determination where now alot of young boxers look up to him from it. So for themselves Vargas had a better career. For the general public Gatti had a better career
