DAZN always has the option of buying Canelo out of his contract if they are so unhappy. Maybe then Canelo can also get rid of Golden Boy and do his own promoting. It would make it much easier to make fights with non-DAZN fighters.

Anything is possible...if neither side is happy, I could certainly see them splitting up...I would just think that for Canelo, having that guaranteed $300 or so still left from DAZN, it would be really hard to walk away from that, and even going away from Oscar...if he spoke English I could see it, but I think not being fluent in English would hold him back as a promoter.

Canelo is young but he has a lot of tread on the tires too...the knee issue is a bit troubling...hard for me to see him walking away from that contract tbh..I think he and DAZN will end up working together, my guess is Canelo just doesn't really like to be told what to do, so wanted to stand his ground a bit with DAZN...but again DAZN has to want to that fight bad...and I would just think Canelo will have to give in, walking away from $300 million is just really risky, and quite frankly would be a bit ****** imo in Canelo's current position.

I could see him theoretically making similar money if he walks away from DAZN...but I could see him making substantially less too, and I think the contract from DAZN is about maxing out for him what he can earn on a per fight basis...just my 2 cents

If he won't rematch GGG, then he damn well better clean out the division and fight Charlo and Andrade. I'll also say the same for GGG, if he's not getting the Canelo rematch, unify against Charlo and/or Andrade.

I have said recently as much as I personally want the third fight, and I do, Alvarez does not need to do it. At all. He fought him once, and did the rematch with Trip G and is officially 1-0-1 with the man thought to be the best at 160 at the time. I will say if Golovkin follows Ghost of Dempsey's advice, he may actually get to a place where Alvarez changes his mind. Also, Golden Boy and DAZN may exert more pressure than Alvarez is thinking they will, and Golovkin may still get that shot.

But honestly, Alvarez does not need anything Golovkin is selling right now.

Your going to have to define your terms for me. Boxing has multiple streaming services, prime time shows on networks, and is creating millions upon millions of dollars of revenue each month. Boxers get tens of thousands of dollars for fighting on undercards.

You can argue it is a niche sport I guess. But it is thriving more now then it has in a generation. It is extremely healthy and a ton of fun.

If DAZN buys out his contract, they will have to reach a financial settlement with Canelo. The idea is that DAZN is unhappy. Again, they do have the option of negotiating a buyout. That will not be cheap, but no doubt less than 300 million. I seriously doubt that they will buy out the contract because Canelo will not fight Golovkin. The fact is that 3rd fight was attractive last year maybe, but most people have moved on. They want to see Canelo fight other people now.

I came here just for the comments lol. I really hope Canelo does well against Kovalev but I remember Jones struggling after returning to 175 following his stint at heavyweight. With Canelo's youth I hope it works out better but we will have to see.

You're points are reasonable. It turns out that Golovkin was not as daring as he made out to be (154-168) but he is a very good MW. He's fought Jacobs, Canelo and now Derev' and only Andrade and Charlo are missing from his resume. I doubt he fights them but few champs wipe out all the contenders at a weight when the division is competitive.

Canelo is to be applauded for making the Kovalev fight although as you hint, opportunistic matchmaking can make legacies.

Yeah I am probably more impressed with GGG's resume than the average fan on here...I think running through the solid 15 or so guys that he faced, with all clear wins/KOs was really impressive...most even ATGs that have run ins with 10 or so solid fighters have a hiccup or two in there, with a close/debatable win, or a draw or loss.

It will be interesting to see what the rest of GGG's career entails...I think for a while he kind of looked for a lacked a partner for the big fight...and then they set their sights on Canelo, and financially at least that paid off for them quite well...but it will be interesting to see now what GGG has left, and if he can do anything else at this point to enhance his resume/legacy.

I would like to see him go to 168 and fight Smith if no Canelo next...wouldn't mind Andrade or Charlo either, but I feel if he beat one of them, he wouldn't get a ton of credit...I feel some would just say he should have faced the other one...if he goes up to beat the consensus number 1 at 168 and wins, I think it would be a better win for him legacy wise.

at that point... Canelo had a good chance to become undisputed

Andrade was the ONLY other title-holder

not only did Golovkin shoot himself in the foot by refusing to give Canelo any credit for the rematch, and by talking all that smack about PED's... Golovkin refused to fight Andrade, to make the fight meaningful to Canelo... and then he refused to fight in Vegas

With all due respect we don't really know the details of the Canelo-DAZN contract...if Canelo is deemed to have broken his part of the deal, there certainly would be no settlement...he may even get sued if that were the case.

And fight 2 for them did basically the same money as fight 1...I imagine fight 3 would do very similar numbers as well...just my opinion there, hard to really say at this point...but if Canelo ended up wanting the GGG fight, his fans would get pumped up for it and it would still sell huge imo
