He wins all his fights by wide margins, seldom losing any rounds. Bivol has never been knocked down. He easily beat Smith although he was hurt once in that fight. Smith is a guy who KOed Hopkins who Kovalev failed to KO. Bivol won every round by a mile against Barrera and then KOed him. He easily outperformed Ward against Barrera. Bivol is a great boxer and a hard puncher and is flat out better than today's Kovalev and would beat Kovalev.
And what's in it for Canelo if he beats Bivol?

They'll just say he beat a guy with 16 fights who was still green. They'll say Bivol only defeated guys who were already defeated by only having 2 top 10 (#7/#9) wins at 175.

This story happens too often. The only reason you guys are finally giving Ward credit for beating Kovalev is only because you have to give him credit in order to discredit Canelo while uplifting Golovkin.

And to take it a step further, these same boxing fans across many boards are the first ones to defend Golovkin vs Rolls/Vanes/ducking Jacobs rematch.

You guys do this to so many great fighters every year it's really sad the state boxing is in becauer of.

Losing to a MW at MW, doesn't mean you lose your WW belt. That's flawed logic.

Good catch as I didn't look at The Ring ratings for this month as I was going off the fact that they had Alvarez as their #1 guy to start 2019 over Gvov. Since Kovalev beat the #1 guy in Alvarez, I figured that would make him #1 in the rankings while Gvov remained at #2.

          That doesn't make sense.

Regarding TBRB rankings and Cliff Rold, at the end of the day, you asked my theory and what logic I use when assessing who should be the top guy in the division. I explained how I look at The Ring rankings as well as not just "who" was beat, but "when" they were beat. It's not a perfect system as is any system, but I think Kovalev has the stronger body of work and is the most proven at 175.
Pac was #2 and lost to Floyd who was #1. That doesn’t demote him below a guy in Brook who only has one credible win at 147. Pac then beat Bradley who was #2 or #3 (depending on the rankings used.) then beats Vargas.
There’s absolutely no way Brook could be considered #1 above Pacquiao.

“That doesn’t make sense” that’s a complete contradiction as you justified your entire argument over who beat who and when they beat them based on those rankings. Saying Kov beat the “#1 guy and the #10 guy”, “Gvodzyk only beat the #2 guy” etc.
Either way your theory is flawed bro.

The majority of relevant ranking systems have Gvodzyk at #1 in the division and while it’s debatable I agree with them. Despite being the most accomplished, on recent performances I can’t justify having Kovalev #1.

If we get a decisive winner in the Gvodzyk-Beterbiev fight, that guy is without question the #1 in the division IMO.

Beterbiev beat nobody. I think it is just fair he is N. 11 by boxrec. Gvozdyk is very dangerous killer, we saw what happened to Stevenson. Bivol is also very good and fights decent competition. Pascal, Chilemba and Barrera is very good run.

Kovalev is obviously the most known and he already has 3 losses, that is why Canelo fights him.
