That 8th round looked hard.
Kovalev on Yarde: "It wasn't a very hard fight [...] he didn't hurt me."

Funny thing with Kovalev, dudes used to talk like he was some huge LHW when actually he wasn't particularly, he just always fought quite tall and had a considerable ring presence. When he rose to prominence around 2013 - 14 at around age 30 or so he was coming to the ring in the low 180s (which is like you say more akin to a biggish SMW) which gradually climbed to a high of about 189 AFAIR - which is towards the high end for a Light Heavy, but not exceptional - around the time of the Hopkins and Pascal fights. This seems to have dropped back down a bit now, which is kinda unusual for a dude that late in his career, but not a bad idea for my money, given that to my mind Kovalevs mobility was always one of his best attributes and given the possible stamina issues he's experienced over the years.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 09-19-2019, 06:23 AM.Comment

Why lie?
Every boxing fan saw Yarde have him hurt and rocked. His corner nearly stopped it.
I guess they wanna give the impression it’s a prime Kovalev to make Canelo look good and ignore that he’s getting put on ***** Street by novice fighters like YardeComment

Good information, thanks. It would also explain why Canelo and company could find no benefit in forcing a rehydration clause on Kovalev, there would be little to gain.Funny thing with Kovalev, dudes used to talk like he was some huge LHW when actually he wasn't particularly, he just always fought quite tall and had a considerable ring presence. So if Kovalev comes in at about 182 and Canelo at about 178 or there abouts, size will not really be a big advantage.
Definitely this makes putting some money on Kovalev even more attractive. It was very clear from initial talks between Gomez and Duva that Canelo intended to handicap Kovalev. Maybe they found out too late in the process that there was no way to do it.Comment

Canelo seems to have realized he doesn’t need to gain an advantage
He is fighting a wounded Bambi
Kovi can say anything he wants , but a true boxing fan knows what’s up
Like I said , Canelo wins and Kovi cashes out
All good but don’t be a sucker , and this has suckers bet all over itComment
