Two 160 pounders recently moved up to fight lineal 175 lbs champ

Canelo Alvarez has a BS title at super middleweight and has fought multiple times at that weight but everyone is pretending he’s moving up two divisions to fight Sergey Kovalev.

They’re also pretending he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread for doing so, even though Kovalev is clearly shot.

They’re also pretending no one else would ever do this.

    Well...

Bernard Hopkins immediately moved up from 160 to 175 to fight lineal light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver. He didn’t fight at 168 at all and he won the fight.

No one cared, he was expected to do this.

Winky Wright also did the same thing when he fought Hopkins. He moved up immediately after fighting at middleweight and never fought at super middleweight.

No one cared, he was expected to do this.

So why are we all pretending Alvarez is so awesome, when he’s not even moving up two divisions and he isn’t fighting the lineal champions? Hopkins and Wright actually moved up two divisions to fight the lineal light heavyweight champion. They didn’t get praised, it was just expected of them because they’re good boxers.

Because Canelo is a god in many of his fans eyes plus boxing has become soft off what's expected of them to do in terms of making fights.

Who has held a title at 54 and 75? Since you know it all, it’s expected you know this.

Ray Leonard and Tommy Hearns off the top of my head.

Since Canelo hasn’t won the title yet, it’s also worth noting Winky Wright was undisputed 154 pound champion, fought for the title at 160 and then for the title at light heavyweight.

Ray Robinson fought at lightweight and eventually challenged for the light heavyweight championship.

Also two fighters completely off the top of my head.

That’s good there’s only one more... mike McCallum... all three are all time greats. That’s what canelo is trying to achieve with Kovalev, to have his name next to those killers... you think fighting and beating ggg is better for his legacy then beating Kovalev? You seem like a smart guy, I think we both know the answer to that.. war canelo!!!!

Your forgetting that 154 became a division in the 70s and the four belt era started in the late 2000s.

So it’s only three people because the division didn’t exist until yesterday and you used to have to beat the best guy in the division to win the belt.

GGG 3 is more important to Canelo’s legacy because the first two fights were close and GGG is still considered a top P4P fighter. Kovalev is shot.

Wtf? Are Leonard, Hearns, and mccallum not hall of famers? So what’s your point? The answer is Kovalev and in regards to p4p Kovalev is number 11 p4p on boxrec and that’s prior to his win vs Yarde which probably doesn’t move him up but def doesn’t move him down..lmao and he is top ranked 175 lbs right now on most lists... so???? The hell you talking bout bro

leonard didnt even really fight at 175. he fought at 168 and they counted it for 2 belts. it was laughable. hearns beat a legit 175 pounder in hill. this is why just throwing everyone in the same category with no context is kind of silly. its a decent fight but kovalev is old and is 4-3 in his last 7. reminds me of floyd-mosley. its not really a legacy making type of fight. and kovalev is ranked 2 on the ring, 3 on tbr, and 2 on espn so no hes not top ranked.
