Comments Thread For: Ruiz: Did Joshua Quit? Let's Just Say He Didn't Want To Continue!

IBF, IBO, WBA, WBO heavyweight champion Andy Ruiz is confident of achieving the same outcome in his upcoming rematch with Anthony Joshua. Ruiz shocked the crowd at New York's Madison Square Garden, when he dropped Joshua four times to secure a seventh round stoppage.

Ruiz better believe that Joshua will be jabbing and moving all night long. He's not gonna stand and trade like in the first fight. Ruiz will have to chase Joshua down. If he waits to counter in exchanges he'll have a long night in there, Joshua isn't the perfect boxer/mover, but he can do enough of it to beat someone that heavy on his feet like Ruiz, we saw that in the first couple of rounds already before Joshua got reckless.

Hopefully both come in prepared, i'm starting to lean towards Joshua as I feel like Ruiz isn't having the right mentality about the whole thing.

I agree with you. My take though is Joshua is not using his range/height at all just like how Wladimir was before Wladimir hooked up with Emmanuel Steward.

Wladimir got beat by journeymen. the 6”1 Samuel Peter almost KO’d him when they fought.

I am not sure if AJ needs a new trainer. I don’t think he does but if he fights Ruiz’s fight then he gets pegged as a one trick pony. And will get blasted out yet again.

I don't think Joshua quit, but he was trying to get some extra recovery time for free and the ref was wise to it on this occasion. He did it against Parker with the loose tape when he was in danger of gassing and got away with it that time. One of those "dark arts" tactics that only work if you are savvy about using them.

This time around Ruiz seems to want to establish more of a psychological edge. Even though he's already obliterated Joshua, he doesnt want to come across just as some pudgy happy go lucky cartoon with fast hands - that got lucky.

He want's to get in some smack talk to let it be known, "I don't jus have skills, I'm a little crazy too homie"...."Mexico don't produce punks fool, we represent, like the day I made you not 'want to continue'"....."of course you cant hold my belts...."...Ruiz is as real as they come. He doesnt seem the least bit concerned with his plumber like outward appearance,.... dude gives meaning to 'fat & fit' at the same time...

Unless Ruiz can improve his foot speed in these next months then I can actually see AJ winning. The key is the distance for AJ, fighting at distance as Ruiz can't close that gap quick enough. We even saw that in the 1st fight.

As soon as it turned into a phonebox fight, and if it does in the rematch then there's only one winner in my opinion.

Agreed, "extra recovery time for free" simply because he's been afforded it back home. In one sense though, he did give up because he wasnt allowed the use of that free slick time slot that he tried to push for. Trying to manipulate for a longer break when your clearly on quiz street pretty much says "I need more time to recuperate, and refuse to re-enter the fight on the grounds of the referee orders....so I'll simply spit out my mouthpiece - walk away - lean on the ropes, instead of signaling 'I'm fine' by eagerly walking towards the ref.... A routine procedure that I'm well familiar with in boxing."

I think he was trying to buy time to recover from the knockdown in the 3rd that he never really got to recover from and to get his breathing together.

Most people have these humps during physical activities where the breathing becomes difficult but if you keep working it actually gets better, just like Joshua in the Klitschko fight, he was exhausted and I thought he was done, but after a couple of rounds it got better and that's what he was trying to get to against Ruiz. Difference is Ruiz is younger and more active than Klitschko and he didn't give him the time Klitschko gave him.

The undisputed best way to buy time is by lowblows, not a lot of fighters do it nowadays, but damn that's effective.

It only works if you have a weak Ref in your pocket.

The tape thing and spitting his mouth gaurd when ever AJ needs a break is so blatant, nothing Savvy about it. Blatant cheating and poor sportsmenship. That has been AJ's recipe since stealing his olympic gold medal.

Sooner or later all frauds get found out.
