Comments Thread For: Hearn: Canelo-Callum Smith Fight 'Not Even Up For Discussion'

NEW YORK Eddie Hearn commends Canelo Alvarez for his willingness to fight Sergey Kovalev. The Mexican middleweight star must move up two weight classes to box Kovalev for the WBO light heavyweight title. If, as expected, a deal is completed for an Alvarez-Kovalev fight November 2 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Alvarez will operate at a distinct size disadvantage against an opponent who has spent his entire 10-year pro career within the 175-pound division.

Callum Smith is the greatest fighter of our generation. Would mow down both Deontay and Tyson so I understand Canelo's trepidation.

Canelo is fighting Kovalev because it is a high profile fight and DAZN knows it. But he should fight Smith who would give Alvarez a fright IMO. And Smith is a LOT more respectable 168lber than Fielding was.

its no different than Mayweather when he ducked best fighters and dangerous.

Smith is dangerous no reward beats wbo light-heavyweight king even one fight he is stature grows, but his ducking is getting embrasssing

I really don't think it's 'without question' that Smith is the best at 168. He's beaten one good name in Groves.
He needs to fight either Plant or the winner of Benavidez/ Dirrell to solidify that claim.
He may well beat them both, but they would both be good fights and definitely not foregone conclusions.

Canelo watched Smith beat Fielding much easier than him and decided he’d be insane to fight Smith. There’s no shame in staying in your lane. Look at Kell Brook, Amir Khan and now Mikey Garcia.

In November? Kovalev just got thru fighting Yarde. That's too soon imo. Oh I forgot that's the Golden Shower Promotions way. May 5th would be a better date. November is just too soon but it is what it is. Alvarez will always get the nod if it goes the distance. Kovalev is going to need 2 knockdowns to get a draw at least lol.
