And those shots didn't do anything. Rahman simply outworked Toney. The prettiness of the punches landed is not what scores a fight. You are kidding yourself about Toney. He is not near what he used to be, and his time is about up. -

Faces do not judge fights. Even so, his face was messed up but he was never hurt. Most fans agree Toney lost if anyone did. Either way, since Toney showed up out of shape and did not win, he failed to do what many said he would do easily: UD or TKO Rahman.Comment

^^^seems like this is the response you are looking for. I'll never stop being a fan, so you telling me that I'm kidding myself is about as dumb as you saying his 215 power punches didn't do or mean anything. Toney wasn't throwing "pretty punches", he was throwing power shots...and they landed flush on Rahmans face and body. That's what I score...I don't score ineffective aggressiveness like you seem to. I bet you had Jirov beating Toney too didn't you Harold?
Just because fighter "A" cannot hurt fighter "B" with his power shots doesn't mean that we don't score them as effective, clean power shots accordingly.Comment

I never said they weren't of any meaning. Just said it didn't add up to what Rahman did in my eyes. Compubox numbers are not the end-all of a fight. Exactly what was your prediction before the fight?
Hops is done, RJJ might as well be, and Toney is right around the corner. Surely you see he is not what he once was.Comment

Well obviously he has slipped, but he's still competitive...unlike Roy. In fact both Hopkins and Toney can still fight. The fact that he was in line to win a majority decision before the 12th round is crazy enough.
Unlike you I'm just not critical of an out of shape 37 year old ex-middleweight performing like that...I'm amazed. It really speaks worse about the heavyweight division than it does about Toney. Not everyone is Bernard Hopkins and shows up tip-top for every fight. He could come in at 250 and I'll still cheer for him. **** Toney could look like Evander Holyfield right now but he doesn't...that's impressive.
I thought Toney would decision Rahman I believe. I thought he was winning 6-5 going into the last round and I thought Rahman evened it up at the end of the night. I preferred the work Toney did (although he looked sloppy sometimes) to the work Rahman did however.Comment

That's fine I guess...but I would be very displeased with Roy if he showed up out of shape. You seem very lax on Toney but why should I care what you think of his body. If you're ok with that, that's you. Everyone's different.Comment

You don't win a fight by scoring clean or aesthetically pleasing punches, you win it by imposing your will on your opponent. If you land a glancing, sloppy blow that sends your opponent reeling, it should count more than a picture perfect right hand counter that has nil effect.
Whoever lands the most effective punches should win the round. Where those punches hit or how they hit is inconsequential. What matters is that they have a visible effect on the opponent upon impact. This is how professional boxing is scored and why knockdowns carry so much weight in that scoring. The guy who made his opponent's head snap back with every blow and had his opponent staggering all over the ring should win the fight, not the feather fisted fancy dan who puts on a magic show.
I don't care if your a boxer, swarmer, slugger, dancer, etc. If you land the more effective punches (effective as in the sense that they clearly have more of an effect on the opponent, not "effective" as in whatever arbitrary sense you are using the word) you win the round. Toney won some rounds on my card early on but he faded and Rahman took over. Overall, Rahman won more rounds than Toney. It was close, but Rahman was the definite winner of that fight.
I am willing to watch it again and I'll see if a second viewing will change my mind but the way I remember it, I was pissed when the draw was announced and had Rahman ahead by two rounds or so.Comment

There's way too many uneducated people who look at that Rahman fight like it was a shut out.
Toney outlanded Rahman significantly in power punches. All Rahman did was jab, move away from Toney, clinch, and hit him on the kidneys.
All that talk about how he was the real Heavyweight and was going to use his strength was a joke, because he got in the rign, refused to throw a right hand (his big power punch) and didn't come forward.
He did throw a TON of jabs and get credit for outhusseling James who was in poor shape, but I had it even. Toney won rounds landed the cleaner harder shots.Comment
