Comments Thread For: Andre Ward: Yarde Was 2-3 Punches Away From Stopping Kovalev

Sergey Kovalev came through a difficult eighth round to stop Anthony Yarde and retain his WBO light-heavyweight belt in Chelyabinsk. Kovalev reclaimed his title from Eleider Alvarez in January, having been knocked out by the same man in an initial meeting last year, to set up a return to Russia for the first time since 2016.

Yarde was gassing by the 6th, had Kov in the 8th but put everything he had left into it and when he came out in the 9th we were looking for him to keep the pressure on and look to finish it but he was empty he could hardly throw a punch.

It was funny, at the end of the 5th he was looking shattered and the UK commentators were talking about how fit he still looked and could knock easily knock it up a gear or 2, i was starting to worry that the exact opposite was about to happen.

Ward Derangement Syndrome is still going strong. Heck, who doesn't like watching Kovalev but Ward showed us the monster was actually a little bit vulnerable and some folks still can't accept that. Alvarez should as once again in their 1st fight and now a green Yarde nearly wipes him out.

You are assuming Ward is versed in all things illuminati. Last time I checked he was a highly decorated pro boxer and most likely didn't spend his downtime on global conspiracy websites.

Yarde should have gone to the body early, and more in that 8th. A lot of head hunting.

                  Stamina & experience defeated Yarde.

A good fight by all standards but Yarde should come back stronger because he belongs to that level.

Yarde looked really tired in 8th round. He had no condition to finish Kovalev. he just gave Russian opportunity to recover and finish the fight.
